JB3 v1.3 Development - Update!
Hey guys
As the 1.22 update was a great success its time to move on to the next update BMS is working on. I would love to hear any input on what you guys would like to see, as in the end its the user base that should drive the development of the platform Below is a list of things that BMS emailed me last night, that are in the pipeline for 1.3, but new ideas and feedback are always welcome.. 1) A 29.2+ compatible map with even more low end torque and response below 3500rpm. Something suitable for 91 and 93 octane, self adapting to modifications like the current maps, but a real tire melter. BMS has been playing around with new solenoid algorithms and pre-spool techniques that might be just what the doctor ordered here. A byproduct of prespooling the turbos is the transition from off power to on power smoothes out. Based on user feedback and suggestion we think this will be well received. 2) Pre 29.2 specific map. Its finally time for a 14psi @ 2500rpm map for those that aren’t confined by detection codes, or have the means to clear them at home. 3) Methanol compatibility. BMS is working on an integrated kit with coolingmist that will offer quick install and removal, and full JB3 compatibility. Including automatic fail-over in the event of a meth pressure drop or nozzle clog. For those of you who have had the pleasure of driving map 7 on race gas this is going to offer even better performance on pump gas. It will plug in to the map switch port on the JB3 harness and be very reasonably priced. 4) We've got a few BMS tuning gauges in the field now, expect to see videos and reviews soon. Updates will be available shortly on availability and release. 5) As new maps are introduced we’ll reorganize the numbers leaving the most popular maps at the beginning of the list, and moving the more obscure maps (like low boost or high altitude) to higher numbers. The idea is to give you maximum flexibility at the tip of your toes. Also, many of you have probably noticed a new scanning utility has become available to allow users to read and delete extended codes and data. We’re very optimistic this tool this will open the door for at-home flash tuning at some point in the future. But I would like our customers to know that there is absolutely no time frame for such functionality and no guarantee it will ever happen. If/when it comes we’ll be on top of it. Meaning an upgrade path for original BMS customers to whatever the latest and greatest is. Those of you who have taken advantage of the upgrade programs in the past know we go to great lengths to ensure no customer is left out in the cold. Most importantly, we’d love user feedback on what you would like to see included with 1.3! Mike |

I know Terry's looking forward to the time when he can slip the constraints of his piggy and do direct flashing.

First, let me say you have a great great product in the jb3.
Thinking out of the box for a minute, regardless of map development, BMS really needs to think of a much easier/faster way to update maps. The 1.2 took quite a while to be completed and by the time users received them by mail, the competition was further ahead. If you could address the issue of timing control and torque targetting that would be just great! I am really not sure about pre-spooling the turbos to make on/off throttle transitions seamless. That's my humble contribution!

When did BMS say they didn't control timing? If you are referring for CPS offset, then yes JB3 does not use CPS offset. Second, what issue are you referring to on torque targetting? The new tuning tool will allow you to adjust torque settings. |

You need to change the chip in the unit.

The update would just be mailed to you to install inside the JB3. But an update cable is also under development so you can use a laptop. Not sure on the ETA, but might be ready before 1.3 comes out! Mike Last edited by Mike@N54Tuning.com; 02-11-2009 at 10:05 AM.. |

- Keep the power the same and focus on smoothness and overall drivability for all maps throughout the entire RPM range.
- Allow map switching on the fly but with a different method than the pedal - perhaps the OBC button? A remote (like Vishnu) might work too, but an existing button already in the car would be better. - Provide some feedback so that the user can see and confirm that the desired map was actually set. Make it such that no aftermarket indicator needs to be added to the car - no extra "stuff" in the cockpit. |

I just bought 1.22, I am curious, what is the current boost level at 2500 rpm set for? I don't have a boost guage yet, and am still treading lightly on this software, but do notice that full boost comes on later on in the RPM range to give a smoother delivery and keep traction issues to a higher RPM range.

Hey Mike,
First off, congrats on a great product! For those of us who really want to test the limits of the stock turbos it would be great if we could swith on/off the turbo melter map from time to time.. I realize running this map on a daily basis is not a good thing for the stock turbos but the time is nearing where we will begin to see people upgrading and switching out the small stocks for larger turbo's. I just think it would be cool to be able to run a crazy boost map from time to time, almost like a nitrous shot |

I'll second the opinion that the upgrade process has to become smoother.
I ordered the (free) 1.22 upgrade on the 20th of January, which cost me $28.01 USD for shipping to Finland. I'm just now receiving the upgrade chip by mail (sent out last Saturday by USPS according to Paypal), and it's taking its time getting here. When it does, it'll probably get caught in the customs, with me having to go down there and explain what it is and show them receipts and stuff, just to get it home, at which point I can start taking my car apart to exchange the chip (with odds being I manage to break it in the process ). Ok, I know that's a bit pessimistic, but I'd still much rather just download something off a web site, plug in my laptop, and be done with it, all in half an hour, instead of this half-a-month long process.

BTW, I am one for continued progress, so seeing both major tunes compete closely is a win for everyone!
