325i vs 97 Eclipse
Well... I lost by half a car length.
But after 70mph I noticed that he wasn't pulling away from me anymore, so I guess it's just his all wheel drive that gave him the start puls I have the damn automatic. OK, I want an M3 now... |

alot of people in this forum seem really concerned that their BMWs are slower than less pricier japanese cars. cmon, we didn't buy the BMWs for speed right? Alot of dumbasses approach me and say BMWs are slow, and that their hooked up Civic would burn me in a quarter mile. so?! bitch, i could tie a rocket to a skateboard and it would be faster than my car. that doesn't mean a skateboard is better.
To the driver of the Eclipse: screw the head to head race, let's freakin drive head to head into each other at 30mph and see who survives, your 1500 lb japanese tin can or my 3500 lb teutonic beast. Last edited by bostoniant; 06-30-2006 at 11:41 PM.. |

geez relax homie anyway i kinda agree that we didnt buy bmws for speed, but hey people would be immature at some point in their life right. one thing though, i dont know what to say about the safety of jap cars...i guess some have good crash/safety rating and some dont just like any other cars....plus i dont think we can have speed power and safety at the same time without paying a hefty price..

agree with my buddy, aapraidi, most people buy beemers for an executive civilised german sporty saloon not a boyracer tyre screecher. would have bought an evo9 or scooby sti if i wanted to kick ass. would have saved money too.
Currently, unless u are swimming in money. u either get looks but no power (ie base bmws) or no looks with power (evo. sti). if u want power, looks (ferarri, porsche), u need a lot of bread/dosh. ________ Shemale video ________ Guy Cums Hard ________ Payment protection insurance dicussion ________ VICTORIAS SECRET GIFT CARD Last edited by climkt; 04-22-2011 at 03:42 AM.. |

Ooohhh... that sucks.
I raced a 97 Eclipse GS-T in my 1996 Honda Prelude Si, and kept up with him and beat him by a nose hair. That was a 2.3 liter DOHC, 160bhp engine. I'm pretty sure I could whoop on a 97 eclipse in my 325i. Quote:

Well, my 325 feels faster than my Prelude. Of course the prelude was stick. I know eclipse has 210hp, the only difference between your friends GS-X and the GS-T that i raced is that the GS-X has all wheel drive, but the GS-X also weighs more due to that, so I think the GS-T, both in stock form and stock boost would be quicker, i dunno though. Of course, if the the boost is higher, the four wheel drive may come in handy for the better traction.

I don't see why everyone thinks the 325i is some sort of fast-race car. I bought my car for the luxury, the ride, and the look, if I wanted a fast car, I would opt for a STi. I hate when people think that a car is fast just because it is a BMW, or even worse it has "M Power" which is the soul reason an M3 can beat every car on earth. I don't try to race people in my car, I might go against my friends for fun or something, to toy around, but I'm not going to give an all out race and get mad that I couldn't beat this car or that car. Its a luxury car, enjoy that its more comfortable inside then whatever other car someone else is driving, unless thats another faster luxury car.
Edit: What I hate the most is that some M3 drivers think they can beat a car, that they know is faster then theres, in every aspect just because they have M power. =]

I don't think its necessarily that people think the 325/330 are fast race cars, but then again, neither is the Eclipse GS-T/X. I believe that car was also at around 6.6 secs, and the 325i US version is around that as well i believe, so it should have been an even race.
I doubt people here go out (hope not at least) and race these cars, its obvious that they are not designed to be raced, however, I would "race" a friend, or just for kicks, like this guy probably did, occasionally. See nothing wrong in that. Heck, when I was in HS, I raced my mom's Camry LE (I-4) against my friend's parent's Cadillac deville. Just for kicks, but of course we are safe drivers and were mature and didn't weave in and out of traffic or anything, it was on empty roads. and by the way, the Caddy killed me. Quote:

L L I think a lot of people think of BMW as race cars simply bcus it's a BMW. You go into a dealership and there are posters with sayings like "why do we race? why do you breathe?" So it's only fair to say that BMW pretty much implant that thought in our heads. To me BMW has always been sporty first and luxury second. Anyone who says they bought it just for luxury and comfort is lying through their teeth. If you truly want luxury and comfort then you should be lookin at MB and Lexus, not BMW. From its sporty stance, I6 engines, well tuned suspension and rigid chassis, BMW is pretty much race-car-like. Though I dont really race with others, it's fun sometimes to do it just for kicks. |
