Colorado: Schomp final purchase question?
Quick question guys:
My car is en-route to dealer this week from the CA port and I will go get it by the end of the week Curious if anyone has purchased a new car from Schomp lately and what kind of "additions" they are going to try to talk me into when I go into pay for it. Meaning extended warrenties etc... Thanks in advance!

I am not sure about schomp, but watch out for the famous credit card offer and paint protection - Stay away from both!
Also, be prepared to receive the car without floor mats. |

Bought mine from Murray, the only thing they talked to me about was the wheel/tire warranty, which I declined, but kind of regret that sometimes.
Other items as mentioned that dealers try and get you with (maybe not Schomp) is the window etchings with the VIN, paint protection, lo-jack, and extended or accessory warranties. The only one I would even think about is the wheel/tire warranty, and only if the price is right. Just remember one stock RFT will run you about $350+ from the dealer. And hopefully they throw the floor mats in, at least talk to them about it if they are not in there and they probably will. Edit: And congrats, you will enjoy the car! |

I ended up getting clear bra and tint through Gebhardt. Wouldn't do the clearbra again (didn't have it on my old 1995 318ti either, and that car kicked for 12 long years - yeah it did have some chips) The rock chips will happen, and they will happen in places where the clear bra isn't covering anyway. I was overly optimistic that it would make a lick of difference.
The tint is nice, but the lower sweeper (inside the door) is scratching the tint (known issue with BMWs. only happens on some cars for some reason. My wife's is fine), which has to be specially treated with felt. Not sure if I'll do the tint again when I buy my next car. For the money I'd get the BMW performance exhaust instead. |

Congrats on your new ride. The long wait is almost over.
I also got the clear bra "full wrap" through Gebhardt, which included the entire front bumper, headlights, behind each door handles and a strip under the trunk (flat part of bumper). Gebhardt asked about tint but didn't try to upsell me otherwise. I think they wanted $550 for the clear bra but I was able to get them down about $100 bucks by just asking if they could do better on the price. You could probably find it cheaper at a shop but it was convenient and the dealer will stand behind the work if I have any problems. And I think the clear bra is totally worth it - I didn't have a clear bra on a previous car and it looked like the bumper had been sandblasted after about 5 years of Colorado winters. Just my 2 cents. If offered, I would have considered the wheel/tire insurance depending on the price. Already had some curb rash fixed on one wheel for $100. Crossing my fingers and dodging those pot holes.

I bought a new car from Schomp and although they gave me a hard time while I was waiting, when I picked it up they didnt really try and sell me anything. They offered the tint and clear bra package but my sales associate said I could get a better job done cheaper and referred me to another shop. I didnt get the clear bra but I wish I did. The front bumper is totally pitted. ......Who is your sales associate? I dont think my guy really thought that I would pick the car up when it arrived so while I was waiting he was rather rude......And my car did come with floor mats. I didnt even have to ask. You should ask them not to drill holes in the front bumper and put the front plate bracket on. I forgot to ask. Also, tell them not to put a Schomp sticker on the back....
Hope this helps.....

Thanks guys great advise.
I have asked them to put no SCHOMP stickers/decals anywhere on it already Sales guy is Robb Ashby. I will definitely get the tire warrenty. I will be getting clear bra and tint done but at my guy who has done all my cars at IDS www.idswindowtint.com they are great (and yes he already told me I will probably need the felt). I better get floor mats - ha! Thanks for all the info and please post more if you got it. I hope to get her this friday (the wait is killer). Rock on!

Yeah I got my tint done at IDS too. They did a real good job but had to redo the drivers side door twice cause it was peeling.

Same here, got mine at IDS, and have to go back in to get driver's door redone because of peeling. At least its lifetime warranty.

I scheduled a tinting appointment with IDS on Saturday morning - thanks for the recommendations.
Noah at IDS says they charge $25/door extra to remove the hard plastic strips from inside each window to (hopefully) minimize scratching the tint. Do you guys think I should have them do all 4 doors or just the front 2? I don't use the back windows very often but I assume the tinting will get scratched eventually. Regarding the peeling issue on the drivers door, does IDS know why it's happening? Hoping to avoid repeat visits. Thanks again.

The coupes roll down slightly every time you open the door since there is no frame on the top of the window. I think the tint probably has a hard time drying out fully before you have to open the door.

- Install tint and hope it doesn't scratch (my wife's car fits into this category. Minimal scratching - also E90) - Options involving disassembling the door panels (which you KNOW means that something will be loose upon reassembly and thus rattle) * Remove the lower sweepers and hope that they were there for no good reason * Install additional felt like that from tintprotector.com. This seems to be the best longterm solution IF you/your installer know how to disassemble and reassemble a door correctly (w/o breaking tabs, panels and the like) Good luck, and let us know which way you decide to go with it. I haven't pulled the trigger on the tintprotector yet, but very tempted. |

If you are worried about breaking door panel tabs, just go to the dealer and buy $5 worth of the tabs and bring them to the tint installer and tell him to replace them if he breaks any.
FWIW, I think the scratching issues only affect the E90, where the E92 has its own issues with the tint delaminating at the bottom. |

Matt explained that for E90's, the windows have a "U" shaped seal on the inside designed to keep water/dirt out -- the top part of the U has felt and the bottom is just hard plastic. IDS leaves the top felt but cuts away the bottom plastic so it doesn't rub/scratch the tint. He says they use a lot of water when they apply the tint and have never had any problems or damage inside the doors. He also said that cutting out the bottom plastic eliminates the scratching. Regarding the door removal, Matt says they used to remove the entire panel but now just unclip the top section to cut the hard plastic. They have worked on a lot of 3 series and haven't had any problems with broken clips or anything. But he said if they do break something, they cover all repairs/parts. Given this info, I plan to have him cut out the plastic on all 4 doors and hope that I don't have any problems. I'll let you guys know if I do. NOMAD: sorry this turned into a Tint-fest. I hope your car arrives before Monday! I'd love to see it after they do the tinting, etc.

Lots of good info here. Let us know how it goes. Also, Sam, the broken tabs only worry me in that sometimes they can be hard to find inside the door, which results in annoying rattles. Replacements are cheap enough, as you pointed out...

Hey guys well car is FIANLLY here and may get it today (weather)...
But CA called me about the tire warrenty What do you guys think or did you pay for this from SCHOMP in the past? Free tires for life no matter tread wear or tire punctures. Free rims for life bent rim replace it. Also includes free windshields, batteries, blubs, road side assitance for life. Price = $2100 Seems pricey but also covers pricey stuff... Thoughts please before I head there this afternoon! Thanks in advance.

That seems like a real awesome deal for that price. DO IT! You will go through that amount just putting 2 sets of tires on the car. They didn't offer me that when I bought mine. Seems like a deal that's too hard to pass up in my opinion.
