When did BMW release the reengineered HPFP?
I've already had my fuel pump replaced but the last couple of days it took me a good 5 seconds to start the car. Anyone know when they started putting the reengineered ones in the car? I have a feeling it's gonna go out again.

AFAIK they are in the 3rd gen pumps now... (according to my dealer).
Looks like they are still having problems with American fuel? Several 2009 owners are already reporting failures... FWIW after my first pump died, I switched to ONLY shell gas, and i've been good ever since... not sure if that matters, but it works for me |

I wonder how European and American 335i's HPFP failure extent compares?

OP, how many miles did you have when the HPFP died the first time? And how many do you have now?

Is it because of better fuel or HPFPs differ?

They are on their 3rd part number, looks like the latest ones were put into use around 09/2008. |

I heard ethanol 10% is bad for our cars. Any truth to that?

Ethanol can degrade lines and is more caustic a substance than gasoline. Its not as bad as Methanol which can cause excessive metal fatigue, but it still is not the greatest for the car. The problems are going to come when ethanol content moves up to 15% which is about 5% higher than manufacturers said a modern car can really run without part failures increasing over time. But that never stopped legislation before. After all, when has congress ever showed restraint in costing tax payers their hard earned dollars?

Still... this pump problem is ridiculous. I got the new pump in September and the new one has been acting up for the last three months now. Dealer couldn't replicate it, of course.

I have seen references to an HPFP recall, is that true? I assume we can't get the 3rd gen pump without having a failure first? I would certainly be willing to bring mine in for the latest pump to avoid this failure.

If you look at the link I posted above, as of 08/2009 they are only making the new 3rd gen hpfp. So any pump replaced after that should be getting the new 3rd gen pump.
the official recalls are in here, read through the thread all the way because there are several SIBs for differering build dates. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ht=hpfp+recall |
