Loudspeaker system BMW Business vs standard setup

This is the one which is £380 more than the std. system. I understand you get more speakers but does it have a more poweful amp as well?

The standard system has the amplifiers built into the head unit. The upgraded systems use an external amplifier which is more powerful. The higher up the spec you go, theoretically the amplifier gets better too

Thanks Tony. I thought it must be more than just speakers.

10 speaker system, 4 x 25w output to midrange speakers and tweeters, 2 x 40w to sub-woofers. Amplifier has "vehicle-specific equalising" - whatever that means.

You want to ask 'tisme' as he's just got a new LCI 330d and looked into it. He ended up getting an Individual Audio which is v.expensive (£1,405) but looked at them all.

The first upgrade is named 'loudspeaker/BMW business' (£380) and gives you more speakers (tweeters) then is the 'loudspeaker/logic7' (£805) which apparently has the same number of speakers as 'loudspeaker' but provides surround sound and other equalisation options. I THINK!!!

Logic 7 adds two speakers in the rear parcel shelf and a central speaker in the centre of the dash. Output is 7 x 40w to the main speakers and 2 x 70w to the sub-woofers. It also adds selectable surround function and vehicle and speed specific equalising.

Individual has 16 speakers with a nine channel amplifier - where the other three speakers go - I have no clue, but total wattage is 825w and has Dirac signal processing as well.

Funny, I thought Logic 7 had DSP as well?

Alan, your right, Logic 7 does have DSP

BMW keep friggin' around with the names!

When I spec'd the new car a few weeks ago the website had changed to:

BMW Hi-Fi (£390)
BMW Hi-Fi with prof DSP (£805)
Individual Hi-Fi (£1405)

It is quite confusing as I wanted logic 7 and the dealer had to double check that the new BMW Hi-Fi with prof DSP was indeed the old 'logic 7'

They have now reverted back to:

BMW Business (old hi-fi) (10 speakers)
BMW Logic 7 (13 speakers - 11 in a vert)
BMW Individual (loads of speakers everywhere lol!)

I decided upon the Logic 7 (although my order shows it as BMW Hi-fi with prof DSP!!) and will write a review when I finally get the beast

My 335i had "BMW Hi-fi with prof DSP" which is the same as Logic 7 (as far as I'm aware) and it sounded amazing so that's something to look forward to redE93cab.

Having lived with this system (not anymore though!!) I cannot understand how the Individual Hi-Fi warrants the additional £600. I literally couldn't fault the DSP/Logic system. I'm not having a dig at the Individual system, I'm sure it's technically advanced, but seems an awful lot of money and wonder if your ears can physically tell the difference.

How can I tell if I have the HiFi Business Loudspeakers installed?!

Hi all,

Am new to this site. I actually have a 5 series, but I cannot find this info online anywhere and you guys seem to know about it. The 5 series media options have the same names and descriptions, so am sure the answer is the same.

I bought my car with the Business/HiFi Loudspeakers upgrade - the one costing £380. Supposedly, this gives me 10 loudspeakers instead of 6. But I am not sure if this has actually been fitted?! Probably, I just cannot find them. I see one in the middle of the front dash near the windscreen, two in the front doors near the handles, and two in the parcel shelf. Where are the other 5?

Sorry for the basic question, but I guess they cannot be too hidden from view?

The ten speakers should be in the form of front speakers and tweeters (4), rear speakers and tweeters (4) and two under the front seats.

I don't remember where the rear speakers are. If they are in the rear doors you should expect to see a 4" and a 2" speaker next to each other. In the front, the 4" speaker is in the door and the 2" tweeter will either be in the mirror triangle or at the edge of the fascia top - one at each side.

Is it quite loud when you turn it up? Can you feel the bass through the seat quite obviously?

Some cars might have dual cone speakers instead of separate mid range and tweeter - if the rear speakers are in the parcel shelf, you may be able to tell from inside the boot.

Hope this helps

It means a lot better sound than standard. I have had both and very happy with HiFi.

Thanks for the info. Just in case this helps anyone else, here are my findings. I have a 525i (2009) with the Business Loudspeakers (the £380 upgrade, not the higher end Logic7 or Individual Audio ones). Sorry for posting here, I know it's 3 series, but the options seem the same so I though it was relevant.

Basically, I wanted just to confirm that I actually had what I had paid for. I found:

2 speakers in the rear parcel shelf.
2 in the mirror trianges.
2 in the front doors near the handles.
2 woofers under the front seats (only visible by moving the seats well forward).
1 in the dashboard near the windscreen.

That makes 9, and there should be 10, but I guess the one in the front on the dash is a dual cone (didn't open it up). Or, I am being a bit useles and missing one (perhaps one in the central console)? Anyway, I guess the woofers under the seats distinguish the Business Speaker Upgrade from the default.

I'm very pleased with the sound. I wonder how much better, under real life conditions, the higher end options could sound even in theory, but I have not heard either so I cannot say.

Only the Logic 7 and Individual have a SINGLE speaker in the front of the dash - in the middle. This is for the surround sound. Could you take a picture of this single speaker and post it here?

Also, if the Five is the same as the Three, the two speakers under the seats are standard. The Business system adds tweeters, uprated front door speakers and extra amplifiers. If you have the brochure for the Five series it will describe the various options and hopefully this will give you a pointer to what you have.

If all else fails, ask the Dealer to show you where the ten speakers are located.

I think there are 2 tweeters in the rear side panels/doors rather than the 2 speakers in the parcel shelf

E90 has them in the parcel shelf i'm sure?

E91 has no parcel shelf, so they speakers and tweeters are in the rear doors.

E92/E93 don't know? maybe rear window ledge is v small so rear seat side panels are more likely??

E90 Hi fi option only adds tweeters to the four door speakers and all powered by a vehicle equalised amp (same as the retro fit upgrade that many are doing). This provides a 10 speaker setup.

E90 Hi Fi with DSP (Logic 7) adds bigger amp, better quality speakers, bigger (8") under seat subs, speakers on rear shelf and centre speaker on dash for surround and vehicle/speed equalised amp. This gives a 13 speaker setup.

Correct about E93 - logic 7 option loses the rear shelf speakers and therefore has an 11 speaker system.

5 series 'may' be different tho and it would be best for the OP to ask the question on the '5post' forum as he may get responses off people who actually have the same car with the same setup?

As far as I know, the basic subs are fitted with the standard system, the HiFi and the Alpine upgrade. Logic 7 and Individual have bigger subs.

The "Base spec", which has a total of 6 speakers (2 in doors, 2 underseats, 2 rears), has 6.5" woofers in an 8" enclosure under the seats. The woofers and mid range speakers in the doors are wired parallel so share power. This system does not have an amp and sounds as good as a drunk man singing.

HiFi and Logic 7 have 8" woofers under the seats. They are different and Logic 7 ones are fed more power (70w Vs 40w).

If you are really into your sounds, none of the BMW specs will satisfy you 100%
