The 335i will be offered locally mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed Steptronic auto and after driving both, we’d opt for the auto, with its meaty steering, chrome steering wheel paddle shifts and thumb-print down-change pads.

from what I understand, the new automatic transmission is supposed to be amazind and with switch gears extremely quick.
however, it still doesnt have rev-matching, right? This reason alone seems to have many people preferring to stick with the 6MT. Im sticking with 6MT since I feel it keeps the driver more involved in the driving process, and its a little faster. |

It seems alot of revieweres praise this new automatic and the numbers suggest a manual-ish economy.
Only difference is 0-60 in 5.5" instead of 5.3" and 0-1000m in 24.6" instead of 24.5". quite impressive I'd say and now I'm confused, I was sure about 6mt but now... |

I can understand the need for the 6at if you wanted it, but for me and my cars, its always been the feel of shifing myself and feeling the motion of that, not the 0-60 times. Getting a stick shift is as much about getting the feel of the car as it is anything else.

If you drive mainly in the city, Steptronic consumes 13,8 l/100 km, 6MT 14,3 l/100 km. Outside the city 7,0 for Steptronic, 6,7 for 6MT. The accelaration is 5,7 sec for Steptronic, 5,5 sec for 6MT from 0-100 km/h. All values for the 335i. I'll stay with 6MT!

...there is something entirely intangeable about driving a Manual... its such a connection. I too do nto care much for 0-60 or haveing a race with a slammed ciVic... i want an amazingly responsive car with that connectiveness... wher I feel like I am driving, not being driven, on that note excessive strring assistance and delayed throttel respnce are scary things.. ~Frost |

Even if the auto were quicker, I wouldn't pick a tranmission based on something as small as tenths of a second. I'd pick it based on the FUN to drive factor.
therefore, 6mt for me! |
