going on a long trip (Boston to Miami) with 3 people in the car - anything I should?

Do?

I have 6k before next oil change, so I figure I'm going to do one tomorrow in between because of the things I've read.

Aside from that should I stock up on any fuel additives to improve gas mileage? I'm going to be just cruise controlling down I 95 at about 80 the whole way and want to save some money.

Anything else I should check?

Yep, bring a portable air compressor, and you might want to think about a tire repair kit. Other than that, you can think about some windex and paper towels to wipe the window every so often.

Save money by:

1. Drive the speed limit
2. Keep the windows/sunroof closed.
3. Run the A/C if needed.
4. Set tire pressure
5. Go to the grocery store and stock up for your drive (rather than eating out).
6. Use the restroom as little as possible LOL...

** BEST OPTION **

-- RENT A CAR... if you don't want to wear down and add miles to your BMW. ... you also can use regular unleaded gas instead of Premium.

My wife and I are driving from DC to FL in our 2009 328i. We love driving. Damn if I'm going to spend $40,000 to treat it like a collectors item. I'm driving that sucker every chance I get. If your car is not paid in full, renting a car while you're paying a $700-$1200 car note is not wise. Why buy a car if your'e afraid to put miles on it? You're better off leasing.

Rent a car. No point in the harsh riding and small BMW if you are not going to enjoy it. This is magnified in your case because you have an E92 equipped with the Sport Pack.

The OP said '..I'm going to be just cruise controlling down I 95 at about 80 the whole way and want to save some money...' in short, if he's gonna pack up the car w/ passengers and baggage, why not take another car. I agree with you, as I don't holdback. If you're gonna buy a luxury brand, enjoy it! If the point is to save money, then sell the Bimmer and get something affordable.. and I don't mean to direct that to anyone in particular here. For a car that's worth over $40K, drive it while it's still running

Yeah, you can't be afraid of driving your car. No car is completely immune to having problems, so leaving your car sitting in the garage just depreciating makes absolutely no financial sense.

Drive the bimmer!! I take my 335xi with kwv3 (quite harsh at my settings) on many long trips, and it's always a blast.

One thing though

Take 425 dollars and get a Valentine 1.

One ticket will ruin the entire drive for you, and at 80mph you will face a decent fine too. It would be likely enough, in conjunction with your time fighting it etc. that you could have saved yourself from that one and many others by buying the detector.

Valentine is great but doesn't always do the trick....just something to keep in mind.

Oh and to the OP...I did this drive last spring break (2008) in my XC90, at the time. The trip was crazy, kinda not as fun as I thought it would be and pretty fuckin dangerous with the lack of sleep.

Would I do it again?

Yes.
