Catch Can Needed 4 stock turbos ?

it has been suggested by my tech. that i may want to consider an oil catch can if,..... others w/ the same set up as mine & have installed one. AND how often do they empty them (by miles) and what amount of oil are they getting in that amount of mileage.

i don't know if it makes a difference btwn, stock or running a tune, that will make a difference on how much oil is collected.

i had asked before but didn't hear f/ anyone with my set up.
tech seems to think if others are not collecting much oil because the N54 is built tight, i won't really need a O.C.C.

I have a 2008 335xi, E90, 10K miles, sports pkg. with up graded wheels so i have an oil cooler, Helene drop in filter, MFD scoops, Cross front strut brace, stock turbos, no tunes or engine mods. may add a tune some day, most likely after the warranty expires. something like JB+ on a SSTT. nothing fancy. unless i go w/ the new BMW performance pkg that is soon to come out.

may minds better than mine prevail. thx all.

All I have to say is when I changed my oem DVs to the Forge ones, I found oil residue in the charge pipe, when I did the install of the CC, tubing had significant oil in it....I let the tubing hang and in the morning there was about about quarter size puddle of oil on my desk...I only have 5000 miles on the clock.

I have spoken to several BMW techs who have all strongly recommended an oil catch can. The amount of oil they find on parts when working on 335i's is frightening to them.

thanks for the info. so what is a good OCC for the money ? i remember seeing a DIY on one that installed up by the firewall.

forgot to ask, is BMW dealership (shop) going to have any issues with this. and is it something i need to take off before i go in for BMW service ?

I would like to know this as well. It seems that if you are meticulous about removing all traces of a tune then leaving the OCC in for service could be explained as personal preference from owning turbo vehicles in the past. Anyone have experience with this?

Well i just removed all traces of any aftermarket parts from my car, taking mine in for the wastegate ticking issue. Anyway i found that the Riss Racing OCC works, although mine was not full or showing in the clear tube sight glass, when i took it out it diffently had oil in it. I highly recommend it and highly recommend taking it out for dealer services or warranty services just so there is no traces the dealer can point a finger at even if it is BS.

I also have the RR catch can installed and have since last Summer .......... somewhere around 8 months now. The car had maybe 7200K on the clock at the time of install. It now shows just over 17K and it is for the most part, a daily driver.

My list of mods is a bit more extensive than yours and everything stays installed with trips to the dealer. That said, the only techs that EVER touch my car are either the lead tech or the master tech in the shop. Both have stated that the catch can is an excellent idea whether BMW engineers think so or not. They are also in agreement that any turbo-charged vehicle would benefit from the addition of an occ. As a matter of fact, nearly all of the performance changes I have made to the car were based upon their recommendations/opinions. I guess my dealer is out of the norm within this forum ......

As far as how often to empty the cc goes ........ I have emptied it twice and have had 1 oil change during that time. I had enough oil to fill a shot glass. The only performance change I have made to the car since the occ install are the addition of DPs (installed this week).
