I think that's normal as I recall my BT saying MSD80 when I know I have a MSD81.

My MSD81 Sedan reads MSD80 on the BT. My MSD80 Coupe reads MSV80 on the BT gauge.

How'd you end up with MSD81? I thought you had an early build?

for us non BT owners, can someone provide me w/a breif discription between a
MSD80 vs MSD81 . my guess it is the ECU , or the software package ?
a "performance chip" is all i found out on my search, but w/ no definition about it.

like shiv, my 2008 335 was also an early build. ordered on, 23 july 2007.
delivered 10/01/07.
followed it thru BMW's assembly line, it had a VIN by about, 10 sept 07.

once again, thank you gentlemen.
