335 to a C6 Z06, is it worth it?
My E92 335 has been an awesome car up till now but it may be time for a change. I've had it for nearly 2 years and thats a lot longer than I normally keep cars
Off the shelf there aren't a whole lot of cars that are real quick for around 40k+. The price of the Z06's ('06+) have come down quite a bit during the last few months and are now in that range. From what I've read the 335 has some issues on the track with running hot and limping. The next car I'd like to track so it seems the best bang for the buck is the C6 Z06. Your thoughts, comments? What do you think my 3 would go for in this market? It just turned 10k miles yesterday and has sport/premium/cold weather/comfort access and is in mint condition. Only seen rain twice. |

I've owned a C6 Z06
For those who say it's not that comfortable for daily driving don't know what they're talking about. The car is fantastic for every day use. 99% of the time you're not going to even think the car is a sports car due to a "rought ride." Don't just take my word for it, most magazines say it's the car they'd choose for a cross-country treck.
Again, it comes down to comparing a sports sedan with a supercar. The Z06 is a BARGAIN right now at close to $40k used. Drive one and you'll see. Yes, you have to be a bit more patient with the throttle on the track because you have 470ft lbs of torque at very low rpms, but it is light years ahead of most anything in that price range. At the track, you can't even compare an M3 to the Z06 - it's just no contest. The Z with a 1LZ package weighs 3100lbs and has 505hp stock. I put a Callaway air intake and a Corsa exhaust and the car made 455 rwhp. Oh, and the suspension is fully adjustable from the factory. The interior is fine. GM spent the money on the expensive bits like aluminum frame, magnesium engine cradle, magnesium roof frame, c/f fenders, aero trick bits and heads-up display. If you really want, you can choose to upgrade the interior to nicer materials, but for me, it wasn't even an issue. When you hit the gas you won't be looking at the interior. Bottom line, I'd go for it in a heartbeat. I had to sell mine due to family issues (mine growing that is). Here's a pic of the Velocity Yellow rocket.

I have an identical car. Velocity Yellow 2LZ with polished wheels. It is extremely fast but rides like complete shit. I own one and im telling you that. It is very rough over bumps and is not very forgiving. Dont tell me it rides like this because its a true "sports car" I agree its not even comparable to an M3. If i had to get a car to drive everyday I would choose the M3. My M3 has been in service since Monday so ive been driving my Z06. Needless to say I miss my M3. On the weekend its a different story.... The Z06 does get great gas mileage |

z06's have a rough and loud ride, and rattles, my boss was kind enough to let me drive his a bit
he dynomatted the entire back half of the car and that helped quite a bit with the noise & rattles

The C6 Corvette is one of the best balances between balls to the walls and manageable ride quality unless you are a lard ass who can't take a tiny little bump. The trade off is very worth it in my opinion, you will be owning one a car that will always be remembered. I'd rather have a hammer than a plunger but that is just me.

Unless you're fat, or have a bad back, the Z06 ride is no harsher than any other sports car out there and I've driven a lot of them (lowered S2000, 911, and even a Ferrari F430).
I don't know where the "it's so harsh you can't drive it" opinions come from, then again I'm in good shape.

The Vette isn't that harsh, in fact since it doesn't use mcpherson struts in front it's almost more compliant than an M3

Why are u even asking man just do it lol. Z06's performance compared to 335 is like night and day heaven and hell its way ahead of 335 no matter what u do to the 335. Regarding the ride i ve never driven one so i am not sure but i imagine with some good comfy tires it can't be too bad eh? Maybe a good set of coilover will solve the problem. Personally the only concern i have over z06 is the interior which if owned one i will wrap everything in suede or alcantara but thats just me.
Remember to post ur ride here when u get it!~

Drive one. No rougher than 987 S IMHO in most conditions.

My dad in his recent cars has had a Z06, VIPER, AND GT500. All cars were modified. Harshest ride by far was the viper , felt like a kit car. GT500 most enjoyable everyday and sounds the best IMO, even more exciting then the other 2 because of the supercharger. Z06 handled pretty good was definitely the fastest ,and my dad drove it as a daily driver with long tube headers , exhaust ,etc. Pretty much everything to make it louder and more annoying during regular driving conditions. BUT he didn't mind, didn't bother me all that much when i was the passenger seat. And if it is even a little uncomfortable to you then that's the price you pay for having such a great car at such a low price. Just my 2 cents. Id say go for it. 335i is very cool ,but Z06 isn't in the same league.

Thanks for all the comments everyone. I'm already pretty much sold on the Z06 as it is, and this just reassured me in my decision.
Looks like the 3 goes up on the chopping block. What do you think it will fetch? |

How one feels about ride quality is completely subjective.
We have two Z06 owners, one says its great the other says it's too rough for everyday. Take one for a test drive and decide. I've had a friend say my car is too rough....so it's really apples and oranges. |

If I didn't need the back seat for my 4YO, I would have a Z06 right now instead of the M3. Hell, the C5 Z06 is a little more (power/performance wise) than the M3 and I would choose it over my M3 as well.
But, I am a little bias, if you look at my screen name and my previous rides, I am partial to the Z06. But, when you have a family and kids (unless you are super rich and can afford to have "extra" toys) the 2 seater options go out the window. So, to answer the OP's question, I would take the Z06 everyday of the week and twice on sundays. The Z06 IS a supercar performance wise, just without the fancy leather and price tag.
