Thinking about modding...

With the recent acquisition of my 335i, I'm thinking about doing some mods. Nothing too major, I would like to know what you guys think or make some recommendations about the mods I plan on putting on. I would also like to know how and where the best place to buy these from.

Grill: Matte black, I don't know whether to buy them or do it myself.
Reflectors: Jet black, because that's what the car is. (makes sense).
Filters: K&N?
RPi Ram Air Induction Scoop: Red or Black? - Feeback on this.
Debadge: Yay! or Nay.

Dude, it is pretty much don't ask don't tell when it comes to tunes. Loads of people have them but will not write anything about it in a public forum.

Its LCI, I don't think they have blacklines yet?

This is all I'm capable of doing at the moment. I figured I would get all the little things done and out of the way, untill I get my break in and then we'll get moving on the chips/power gains. If I were to do a chip, from what I read on here it seems like JB3 PnP is the way to go.

I'm doing two mods. A JB+ and some 4" tips.

Can't wait until the clock reaches 1000 miles

For the grills, I recommend going with a set that are black plastic. You can paint your stock ones but they will start to chip over time even if prepared correctly. With matte black ABS plastic, they will be resistant to chipping and more durable over time. You can also swap back to stock at anytime if you want.

Has anyone had experience with the RPI Ram Air Intake?

Congrats on the LCI. Beautiful car. I would definitely buy a painted grill instead of trying to do it yourself. I bought a painted one and it hasn't chippedso far in about 10k miles. And debadge it FTW! Though this has been heavily debated, and in the end it is up to you.

i believe they sell OEM LCI black grills check getbmwparts.com or something i remember seeing it

and of course it's best to be buy another set cause 1. you can always switch back and resell black grills 2. road chips the paint comes off if you paint them

Or keep your beautiful car stock since you bought it that way in the first place. Just a other perspective.

^ I agree, I'm going to keep it stock for now, but I would like the reflectors or the grills to give it a little bit of my touch or style. If all goes well, I'll do the JB3 and really get things going.

Run away from this forum ASAP. I originally register just to get vessel tracking info when I ordered my car. Now I spent close to $7k on mods. You start looking at the gallery section and you'll join the never ending mod addition

I know! I don't want to fall under the spell of the modbug, thats why I just wanted to stick to simple mods. I doubt the ones that I'm talking about are expensive.

Yep...grills and reflectors are fairly cheap...only PITA is swapping the lower mesh grills...unless you want to get them painted while mounted on the bumper. Like Nick said, I recommend getting the matte black grills instead of the painted ones...they won't chip.

I think you're on the right track, but then again this is purely subjective, so it's really your opinion that matters. Start with the cheap stuff that (IMO) really makes a difference - Matte Black Grills (especially if you have a light color car), painted reflectors, GP Thunders for Angels (E90 LCI has angels, right?). I'd also do a tint if you're thinking about it, since it makes such a huge difference.

And yeah, I debadged mine too. I never debadged a car before this but I really think it looks 100% cleaner without the badge. Also it makes the car a bit unique, at least in my area, since there are virtually ZERO E92 coupes. Just about every day I get, "nice car, is that the new 1-series?", or "looks nice, but what model is it? it doesn't have the numbers on the back". I was surprised at how many people really look for the badges. Without them there it seems to prompt people to ask.

Again though, modding is subjective, do what you like. Congrats on the car.
