This question has been asked a few times before.
Search for the results of those posts. Most will say DP's for power, but IMHO FMIC for the more warranty friendly/safe, environmentally respectful, as well as reliability and prolonging of engine life. FMIC also allows more power and hugely combats heat soak which takes power away. I wouldn't even get DP's. Not worth the hassle, warranty troubles, for 20 more hp, unless of course you are racing for prize or money and need every last bit of power the car is capable of. |

Id say Downpipes first because im more for performance. With or without other supporting mods i believe you will see respectively more gains with DP'S. If the area where you live though is always hot , IC maybe a good thing to think about ...

1)Tune
2)Intake 3)Catback 4)FMIC 5)DP's That's the order I am going. Might not be the best order, but the DP's are the hardest to get out for a warranty issue. Hopefully 3 will be done next week and 4 within a month. 5 might wait until next spring, but they are calling my name. |

1) Tune
2) Intake 3) FMIC 4) DPs That's the order I'm going thru. I'm still undecided on the benefits of a cat-back exhaust and whether its worth the cost/performance. There's no doubting the sound department, but I'm not so drawn to that aspect. |

People also keep pointing to the "performance" aspect of downpipes.
You take two identical otherwise stock cars, one with upgraded FMIC and one with catless DP's. In the first race the catless DP car will probably pull 1-1.5 CL's in 40-120 run On the second run the DP car will probably pull .5 CL's On the third run the FMIC car will probably pull .5-1 CL On the 4th run the FMIC car will probably pull 2+ Add the same tune (JB3 or PROcede) to those otherwise stock cars and the FMIC car will see the advantage even faster. Throw the same cars on a track and the DP car will probably lap the first lap faster, the second lap will be probably equal and every following lap the FMIC car will have the advantage. Heat soak is a bitch to these cars. Catless DP's doing nothing to combat it. Good upgraded FMIC does and therefore performance wise, if racing or tracking, it's the one that offers the better "performance" unless by performance you simply mean increase in power for 1 or 2 quick races or 1 lap at a track. And again, not too many dealers will void warranties for upgraded FMIC that simply keeps the engine running cooler and therefore HELPS it and prolongs it life. Catless DP's on the other hand, don't know of a single dealer that will be ok with them for any powertrain service work you need, and putting them on and taking them off is a bitch too. |

I went with DPs first (because of power gains, quicker turbo spool). Now waiting for FMIC. If I lived in a very hot climate, I'd consider getting FMIC first.

emjei, I know from experience how hot and humid is over there year-round. Get the FMIC first, it will definitely help with the reliability and longevity of your car. Even though TX is not as humid, I'm still considering getting the FMIC first.

I used to think an intercooler was just a novelty item and not really as necessary as some thought, but there was no indepentent testing. Well, I decided I would do it. The bottom line is that we found the stock IC is extraordinarly bad. I am not sure an OEM item is worse. What I realized is that there are 4 things that must be done on this car. They are the non-negotiables... tune, downpipes, intercooler, and intake. After the tune, each is just as important as the next.
