Ever get refused warranty for DP install?

I am really wanting to get an AR DP installed with o2 sims but worried about what a dealership said. I have read the thread on warranties and mods, but curious to know if you guys have had any warranty issues. The dealer stated that if I go anything before the cat that warranty was void. When I asked if it was just the exhaust that was voided, he said it could result in the turbo and engine being voided. I am like WTF? I don't know if Canadian legislation and US are very different, but this has got me kinda worried. I don't plan to change out the entire exhaust, just add a DP. Have any of you received warranty grief as a result of a DP install?

Not sure. You may want to check the forced induction forum here. Lots of owners with DPs.

I do remember reading about an unfortunate individual who went in with DPs, O2 sims and a piggyback installed. The tech saw the sims and decided to lookin the ECU box and found the piggy.

His HPFP replacement was not covered.

Personally, while under warranty, I would probably do a tune and leave it at that. At least it can be easily removed and the codes cleared with a BT tool if I had to take it in.

Very good point Steve. I might just hold off on the DP. I was just planning to run with the default map 3 when I get my JB3 anyhow. I just hope I won't throw codes with that map

If they find them, you're warranty will most certainly be voided. Come on now.

It seems like a two sided coin to me :P Don't really want to lose my warranty I could always take out the JB3 for each service I suppose, but seems like a pain.

I was thinking the same... Im about to install the remus exhaust on my car, but will it just void the warranty for the exhaust or will the warranty of my whole car be voided?

I don't think they care about the exhaust too much as long as it is after the cats. It's the dp w/o2 sims they have a problem with. It's not the risk for me. If anything, I might just go with the Dinan exhaust and wait till it's closer to the end of the warranty.

OP - honestly, you pay to play, but don't be stupid enough to leave a tune in the car when taking it to the dealer...as for the DPs, unless they directly contribute to a problem, you warranty will not be voided. See the thread in the F/I section.

i.e. new suspension will not void your power train warranty unless they find that the suspension caused some failure which damaged your engine...blah blah blah.....THEN it would, but it has to be directly correlated

True, true. The tune is easy enough to remove and re-install. Taking the 15mins is worth not putting up with grief.

take them off if you go to the dealer..dont risk it..its a real pain in the ass removing/installing..but its not worth leaving them on and taking the risk.

I am considering the AE or HKS exhaust, but other than that I doubt I do anything else back there until my warranty is up. I am thinking Helene filter, Helix FMIC, and one of those 2 exhausts with possibly an easy to remove tune should last me until I either surpass the warrany or turn it in. DP's just seem like too much of a hassle and too much of a red flag to me... I wouldn't waste my money on catted DP's either, but that is my opinion.

The problem is that when you are chasing power - leaving the DPs out of the equation really is limiting. That's 25-30whp that is hard to make up with any other mod besides a pure tune.

I took my car in for the WG rattle and left my exhaust and DP's on the car... before I handed the keys over, I told them the car was modded and if it would be a problem. The shop foreman came by and said it wouldnt be a problem...

YMMV
