Bad Neighbors
Every night they throw a party, someone's car gets messed up.
Here's a running List of Problems that have happened after they've thrown a party: My mom's driver's side rear view mirror knocked off My mom's driver's side window smashed out* My dad's rear view mirror knocked off** My sister's driver's side window smashed out My sister's driver's side window smashed out again*** House across the street got "tagged" with graffiti 2 cars down the street go tires slashed Last night, my aunt's driver's side window was smashed out These problems ONLY occur when they throw parties. other than that, our neighborhood is pretty relaxed. *Went outside when I heard glass break, and the son of the neighbor was outside (only him) saying he ran out when he heard the glass only to see a car driving down the street **Same kid out there, said this kind of thing has been happening a lot (to me, it only happens on nights you throw parties) ***My sister and I ran outside when we heard it, the same kid was out there with a broom and dust pan. He said he had heard glass break and ran outside but didn't see anyone. Why was he out there with a broom and dust pan? Maybe I'm thinking too much about this...but I find it odd that these problems only occur when they throw a party. They have a lot of "ghetto," and "gangsta" friends who come by on these nights. I know I caught the youngest son shooting fireworks at my car on the Fourth of July when he was younger. It left a very small burn mark that I was able to be buff off. I'm certain it's a friend of theirs, or even one of them who is doing it. What should I do? Surveillance to catch them? Once I do, then what? Confront them? I have found that I can call the cops on their parties for being loud, everyone leaves and then there's no problem, but this is a pain in the @$$. Honestly, I don't know what to do, and I don't know why I get bent out of shape over this.

You let this continue!? Why don't you tell them they are responsible for damages since it CONTINUES to happen and its clearly THEIR guests damaging your property. If they gave a shit, they would have a word with their guests.
Thats a lot of dough in damage man.

I don't think I want to do anything illegal to them.
However, I would like payment for the damage or just don't damage cars on the street. It makes sense to say that it's them or someone at their parties doing it (and they cover it up), since it only happens on nights they throw parties. That, and the eldest son is always out there before us (even if we run right out), on one occasion with a broom and dust pan. Do you think a surveillance camera is the way to go? It would be a pain in the @$$ every time they throw a party to have to either a) stay up and watch, b) make sure you're home when they do throw a party, c) deal with a possible confrontation after viewing them doing something, d) having to call the cops every time.

Actually, we have filed a police report after one of the parties. It was the one where we had the eldest son sweeping up with the broom and dust pan. The officer asked us if we saw anyone, and we mentioned that he was out here sweeping up. The officer went and knocked on their door, probably just to hear what he had to say. But they didn't answer the door.
That was some shady response, if you ask me. In any case, this whole situation has really got me upset. Not sure how to handle this. In my head, I think getting the police involved could possibly result in more neighborly tension. I know after that police incident, the next couple of parties they threw didn't have any problems. However, as I mentioned in my initial post, last night they went for my aunt's car. I know it sounds like they're specifically targeting us, but just to re-hash, it was also a house across the street that got graffiti tagged, and a couple of other cars on the block. The only thing that ties these acts of vandalism together are parties thrown at this house.

Is there a Neighborhood Council? I'm pretty sure that some places have Neighborhood councils (or some other word) where theres rules on how your house must look, and how people have to behave, and if someone doesn't abide by those rules, you can legally force them to move out.
I don't remember all the technicalities behind it though.

OP- the thing about dealing with neighbors is that you have to deal with it amicably. Obviously you don't want any bad blood between you and them. So I would probably get proof and go talk to them. Tell them that if it doesn't stop you will have no choice but to proceed further. |

Possibly, but the kids are irresponsible. The father seems like a nice enough guy from the little communication we have had. However, we can hear them shouting at each other on a weekly basis, the two sons and the father. The mother left last year (not clear if divorced, or just left).

I see you are in Japan, you might want to add that to your location since most of the people on this forum probably haven't of of Dr. Wily's Castle (I'm assuming that is a small town or village and the translation does not come out very directly.) Luckily their is an easy solution to your problem, the Yakuza! Have them have a chat with your neighbors and things should shape up right quick.

Honestly I would confront the dad, tell them what you think's been going on and see how it goes...maybe its a misunderstanding..
If not, I would definitely call the cops everytime they have a party and complain about loud noise or something so that their parties don't have a chance to get going...OR just say their smoking weed ![]() |
