IDrive+Usb stick: Some Mp3's wont play?

Well this one has me baffled: The build date is Dec '07, and it has the IDrive + Ipod/USB option. When i load up a 32 gig USB stick, some MP3's will play and some wont. They are all 44k hz and the bit rate doesn't seem to matter, I can play some 128/320/198, but some 128 & 256 wont play. They are all DRM free MP3's.

Entire albums will or wont play, so the files have something in common, but i cant figure out what. If i can figure out what the problem is, i can probably convert them to avoid my issue. I've searched a ton for this and cant seem to find any answers, any one know?

My idrive sometimes locks up while playing USB. I cant adjust the volume or change songs when that happens. Sometime my USB doesnt play certain songs but at other times it will play those songs. Other times idrive just wont read the USB stick and I have to restart the car.

Its some sort of Bug. My build date is 6/08 so i am still wondering if there is any Idrive update for me.

Hmm, this isnt a random bug for me. I can always play some mp3's and never play others.

Are the albums in different file folders with naming conventions unacceptable to the car, ie. the folder name is too long or contains unique characters? I still find myself using the old DOS requirements when naming folders...

Are you sure they're DRM-free?

I'm sure they are DRM free.
I've done some testing I took a 256 kbps file that wasn't working and reconverted it to the following mp3 settings:

VBR "varriable bit rate" - 190 & 240 worked
ABR "average bit rate" - 192 worked
CBR "constant bit rate" - 192 & 256 worked

So basically no matter what i converted it to, it worked, including its original format. The only difference i can see is I used a "Lame" encoder, where before it was done by "Guess".

So i guess ill just batch convert all my mp3's and they will magically work.

I had some that were 320kb/s and they wouldn't play.

I've also found that album art embedded into the file can also cause issues.
