God I hate my Dodge Charger Rental.
As some of you may know I nailed a deer with my car and it has been in the shop since the end of April. Yea, its taking forever. Anyhow, I was given a Dodge Charger for a rental which only had 89 miles on it. No kind of mileage fees and insurance picking up the bill so I drove the crap out of that thing. It now has over 3000 miles on the clock
Ever since I have been driving it I have noticed EVERY ricer has been taking stabs at me and I have nothing to fight back with. The car is slow. Really slow. Its the 3.5 High Output engine. Simple corners and turns feels labored. This thing is a freaking boat. I will say one thing though. Its surprisingly good on gas as for a 16 gallon tank I get about 350 miles out of it. Though I do better with my 335i. I guess I just miss my car

i wasn't impressed with mine either, but to be fair it is a rental. For instance, I HATED the 325 my dealer gave to me while my car was getting scheduled maint. If someone was going to judge my car (335) by driving the loaner (rental 325), they would have immediately thought my car would be crap. The 325 rental just felt cheap. So much you wouldnt even think it shared any parts with my car. My point is, i wonder if you would have had the same opinion if you had driven one with bells and whistle or an RT version?

Drove one around for 10 days when up in Alaska. Not a piss-poor car by any means, relatively nice for a rental, but you must remember these are the base models, just as lyndon said about your 335i compared to a base 325i. The thing I didn't like were the cheap plastics (I understand it's a dodge but... n/m, it's a dodge) in the interior and the headroom in the back. When I was in the backseat I had no clearance and my head smashed into the roofline and rear window. I'm 6'0". Besides that it drove alright, god decent gas mileage, and had ok feel.

Tell me about it. I just had to live in a PT Cruiser for 5 weeks. It was an interesting car when it first came out, but it's been left way behind. I also can't believe how many I see now. They're like cockroaches.

I got my first one as a rental late one night last winter in New York. I left the airport and came to a toll booth and couldn't find the damn window switches. You could cut a fingure off on the sharp mold release edges inside the center console. Awful cars. I'd take just about ANY rental over a PT Cruiser. |

Give it a rest with the blanket statements. GM and Ford are both building many cars that are on par with, or better than their rivals right now. Chrysler was raped by Diamler and left for dead. A good portion of their cars are actually German leftovers that were used so more money could be funneled out of the company and into Diamler's other ventures. |

I had a Charger HEMI for a couple of days and found it pretty fun for its size. Granted, I wasnt pushing it to its limits. Would I buy one? Definitely not.

You always get a crappy model for your loaner. You wouldn't want to make any conclusions about 3-er based on the POS 328 loaner. RT / SRT-8 are totally different cars. |

Im no fan of GM cars (i only like the Corvettes), but there are plenty of people who do. They didnt get to this point by building crappy cars. They've been the number one seller of cars for a long time. They got into this situation by not trimming their numbers and benefits over the years. They kept growing in size eventhough their marketshare was not increasing (the Japanese have been nibbling away for the last 30 years). As the market leader, you will at sometime reach market saturation and your marketshare will decline, but your expenditures (employee benefits and payroll) has to equally decline. Thats my opinion... |

Ha ha, lmao! I had a 2008 Charger for a rental last year and it had to be one of the worst, most uninspiring cars I have ever driven. It's beyond me why anyone would subject themself to such an atrocious car/line of cars. It's not like they're inexpensive either relative to their class.

And it's right on for the most part. They certainly went through a period of time where their cars weren't on par with the Japanese in a lot of ways, but over the last 5 years they've closed the gap, and the very latest models are near top of class, especially in value. GM got caught in a bad position by the credit crunch (which wasn't their fault), and then hit hard again by the rapid decline in auto sales. All the automakers are hurting right now, but GM was too weak to withstand the downturn. As you said, Ford got lucky. They took out a massive line of credit before things got bad. GM didn't need it as much at the time, and passed, but it's screwing them now. |

BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Lexus, Toyota, Scion, Acura, Honda, VW, Volvo, Playskool electric Jeep .... I have yet to see a car manufacturer put together such shit and stay alive. I was actually very interested in the new Vette until I took a test drive... That is the biggest piece of shit sports car I have driven.... That thing felt like a truck with worse visibility and sound...
