The new 328 engine is....
a tuned up 325 engine. I just checked one out at the dealer, and it has the 2 wiring connectors that are un-used, and no manifold actuator, just like the 325.
Are there other internal differences? I cant say without looking at the parts diagrams. it DOES have a one stage manifold though. Off topic, I wasnt too impressed with the new coupe, that rear quarter really is too long. |

A yeah, same engine as 325 with boost in HP. No idea where you are going with the wires.

This sounds like great news! Let pray that there are no other engine differences!

The 328 engine is actually a detuned version of the new X3 3.0si engine. There are changes to the main block, cylinder head and pistons compared to the E90 325i/330i.
There is a post on this topic with E90Fleet's info here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25235 |

I'm still baffled by BMW's decision to increase the price on the 328 by $1500.

I just got back from the Dealer test driving hte 328i they are getting the 335i in on Monday. Only had 8 miles on the odometer. The handling was excellent and the handling was superb. It blew away my current Mazda3. The coupe looks much better in person then in pictures.

The wires are the control wires for the actuators on the 3 stage, "330" manifold. In the 325 (and now 328) they are still part of the engine harness, but not attached to anything. |

Did you ever get that ECU from the 330 installed? 'Cause I'm guessing you are pretty much all set up to have a 330 engine at this point. |

One thing I haven't seen answered (or speculated upon) is whether the differences between the 325i and 328i longblock are significant enough such that the 328i ECU will indeed not work with the 325i motor. Anyone?

Next year BMW will need to replace the current 328 with a 330 with around 250 bhp. They are putting the price up of this years 328 to start that positioning process.
The 325/328 will not cut it as G35 / IS350 competitors

I highly doubt that BMW will now go back to a discontinued moniker so soon after having the opportunity
to make whatever revisions they wanted to by this time. We have yet to see any mag comparos of the '07 models head-to-head, so I think its a bit premature to say that the 328 won't cut it. Besides, it's the 335 that has to make the grade, and it seems that it will. The E46 325 always lacked in straight line acceleration when pitted against the old G35, so I can't see this being any more of an issue now for BMW than it was before. The 328 will definitely fair well against an IS250, but if Infiniti comes up with a new entry level G...... |
