BMW Supercar ?
Where is BMW's supercar? MB has the SLR and now even the inferior Audi has the R8!! When the hell is our company gonna come out with a car that blows away all these 911 turbos and GT-R's?

Every party has it's pooper and it is BMW in this segment. They don't need to lose money engineering an entirely new halo car and infusing some excitement when we buy their stuff anyway.
P.S: I doubt an R8 can actually keep up with a GT-R and the new Mercedes effort is called the SLS.

yeah I know the R8 isn't better than a GT-R but nothing BMW makes is better.. this disappoints me considering most enthusiasts laugh at audi's lack of chassis involvement. not to mention every bmw has beaten audi and benz in any comparison of similar class cars, I just think if they tried to make a supercar it would be the best. better than ferraris

They won't because they don't have to, and after the M1 fiasco, I don't blame them for not getting involved in it again. With current resources / lack of partner platform for supercars, there's no way they're going to step into that ring.

Pansy? They're sitting on a benchmark (3er) for what now? 20 years? They have a worldwide identity and a loyal following of badge whores who have neither the interest or the means for a balls-on-fire supercar. IMO, it's smart. Sure, I'd love for them to come out with a supercar, but these companies who do that don't often turn a profit on cars like this, and stupid CAFE standards are a big enough pain in the ass with the lineup as is (not to mention once the hippo-like GT's get here)....

Yup, sadly BMW is just as creative as your screen name.

Just not BMW's thing. It'd be cool if they made a crazy M3 supercar version, but it'd basically mean that they' have to up-the-ante and make something greater than their M3. Would they be able to top their own best? That'd be cool to see them do that.
I'd say the closest that they got to a supercar that I've seen is the CSL version of the E46 M3. Unfortunately, it wasn't very practical as they took out lots of stuff, like sound dampening material, side airbags and whatnot. I'd imagine the suspension was super stiff and uncomfortable, too. It wouldn't be fun to drive all the time |

The M6 could be a supercar with some tuning...
There are a few concept cars floating around as well. For example: BMW M-Zero: BMW M-Concept: (Note that the guy that made this doesn't actually work for BMW but is a professional car designer nonetheless.) |

After that, the sky is the limit, expect a M-Powered Bus, followed by a Mini-Van. Yup. SPORTY. |

my eyes lit up when i saw the M1 homage. just by looking at it i get the feeling that would be the car that would have the potential to beat the 997 turbos, r8s and SLR/SLS/Gullwing. i can only hope.

I say they should stick to what they are good at, the traditional M cars and the bechmark 3 series and a redesign of the 5, don't fix it if it aint broken right? I was disappointed with the 7 series, and never really got into the 6.

how do I fail? you're dillusional is all.. truth is I love audi, but their cars have never been up to par when it comes to driver involvement and steering feel. they make some of the best looking cars there are, but their too expensive and their just not as sport oriented as bimmers. for ex. the "ultra performance" S5 that cost just about as much as an M3 can't even take down a "normal" 335i.

Be very glad that BMW did not make a halo super car. If they did, we (the customers) would be the ones paying for it through increased MSRP's on all their cars.

M6 is more of a GT car, not supercar. It can hang with a Gallardo though if going from a roll.
