335i - "Just Mufflers" exhaust?

My new 209 335i is a lease, and my mod budget is goign to allow me to get a tune (JB, procede whatever), and maybe a little bit of exhaust..

I saw one thread a while back where a guy first off did magnaflow mufflers, then replaced the resonator with a X pipe...

This should not void warranty, correct?

Also What are the thoughts on this? This is a lease and I have no desire to spend $1000 on an exhaust. Just something inexpensive that will give it a bit nicer sound.

DO NOT want ricey nasty sounding crap.

Opinions?

Some people chop up their exhausts on leases and some dont. I havent heard of anybody having a problem but you never know. If your looking for power you're much better off buying a set of used catless down pipes.

I know someone who has a magnaflow exhaust system, which requires cutting of stock pipes, and has not had a problem when going to the dealership. I know he went to get his HPFP replaced and they didn't mention the catback exhaust.

more looking for sound...

And catless pipes would robably fail emissions and throw codes?

If you get the procede it has O2 Sim built in, so no codes should be thrown (PROcede experts correct me if I'm wrong) So you shouldn't fail emissions either...

I don't see how doing anything to your exhaust could void any part of the warranty. You could run open headers and it wouldn't damage anything... except your hearing, and the environment.

No offense to the OP, but these type of threads are a waste of bandwidth.

Actually if you run (Catless) DP they could technically void your emissions warranty, but only your emissions warranty (i could be wrong though).

As for the Second comment, it may be a waste of bandwidth, and some people don't like using search, so it pisses us all off, but hey if you can't offer some help, what's the point... OP NEXT TIME USE

It's all good though, it's

yeah thanks, been here a while...

Actually I did search. I tire of people using that smiley, really.

So do a yourself, and you wont find much on muffler only.

You do however find some on muffler delete, whcih is maybe a little loud for my tatse.

The only thread I saw on a muffler only job was a the magnaflow and X pipe one.

And this is my first lease, and fist time modding a BMW. Forgive me for questioning how anal they are about warranty.

Next time I will just consult my crystal ball.

DOn't be like that... It's all good... And crystal ball's are prone to show you what you want to see anyway, a good palm reading will get you better results... Very OT... BMW is anal about all warranty... If you want to be safe either don't do it, or invest in the Performance exhaust, then you don't have to worry about them voiding the emissions warranty or any of that... I don't think they would void warranty on just the mufflers being replaced, but if you do a DP, expect the worse... On a leased car, that could be a very expensive proposition later down the road (even on a financed car too)...

no intentions on a down pipe - just want a little more throaty sound.

I miss my V-8. But these I-6's sound very "formula 1 ish" with the right mufflers, etc.

Actually the muffler delete dopesnt sound bad, I just worry it will drone on the highway and be too loud.

If you leave all your cats in and do the muffler delete its not that loud, it actually sounds pretty good. I get compliments all the time.

i don't think it will drone too bad, it's not like your cutting out the resonator, your just removing the mufflers... Try it out, worse comes to worse you can always have the OEM mufflers put back on, or get some Borla, Magnaflow or other mufflers put on and you should be good to go...

Warranty depends alot on the dealer. Chop up the factory system or start replacing parts and you should expect any work on anything exhaust related to be denied. That's just common sense.

f you're really sloppy about putting it back to stock when you return the car, expect to get nicked for that too - unless your dealer is really asleep.

Muffler delete looking better all the time... Cant be that expensive. They would probably hardly even notice mufflers that were removed then replaced. Unless they see it when I take it in for oil service.

Everyone's tolerance for "loud" is different, but I do NOT suggest deleting the mufflers entirely. As a point of reference, I replaced the factory mufflers with magnaflow cannister style mufflers and my car is pretty loud... and yeah, it drones too, though not terribly bad. I'm a cheap bastard which is why I didn't drop the coin on a full catback exhaust but deleting the mufflers on a 335 to pinch a penny or two is pushing it. Do a youtube search of 335 muffler delete and I think you'll find the sound is not what you are looking for. I just bought the mufflers and tips myself from jegs.com and took the car to the muffler man and had him fab everything up. Install was less than $250; total cost was $440 for everything. Oh, and I just took my car in for service and they didn't void my warranty...

Running an aftermarket exhaust can definetly void your warranty upon inspection by the dealer. But they have to prove that the after market exhaust caused the problem that your bringing your car in for.

dont worry about the exhaust and warranty . i've taken my car to the dealer for fuel pump and turbo problems and they never said anything about my exhaust. ( 4 different dealers in 3 years)

Why do ppl insult you for asking a question that they dont want to respond to. You it annoys you that someone asks a question you dont have to read nor respond to the thread. I am new to modding a BMW and I sure when I am ready to spend my hard earned money I will ask questions. I always see that and it makes me feel like my questions arnt important. But, you know what, is a FREE forum.

Just dont respond if YOU get annoyed by someone who wants to protect their investment.

sorry for the rant to all of those who enjoy help other ppl.

its called searching. casue then when someone tries to search a certain topic they get 58 threads asking the same question, when theres already an answer. then they spend hours looking for the answer instead of a couple mins
