2009 iDrive Routing Nuttiness
Created a route which carried along I-95 between the George Washington Bridge and the Garden State Parkway. The routing, which should have been a straight run on I-95, had me getting off at the next exit, and getting on I-95 again immediately. When I would ignore these instructions and pass by the exit, the route would adjust and do the same thing at the next exit. It did this in both the northbound and southbound directions.

If you've got it set to 'shortest' it will literally do shortest. And sometimes depending on how the road curves, getting off on a highway and taking the side road up one exit and getting back on technically is the shortest route (it may only be 1/2 mile shorter, but it *is* shorter). It thinks that's what you want. Optimum route is supposed to deal with these kinds of situations by realizing that saving the 1/2 mile isn't worth the effort/aggravation of jumping off the highway.
I've had mine in my Acura do that near the GWB. It keeps wanting to take me off I-95 and onto the Cross Bronx Expressway for like 2 miles before getting back on again. If you look on a map you can see how I-95 curves before it gets to the river and why that way *is* shorter--but definitely not a better route. |

My Nav has been doing the same thing for months...
Takes you off the NJT just to tell you to get right back on. On top of that, once I got down to Washington DC, I was looking for a Goverment building and it said the nearest one was in MEXICO! I love my built in Nav system, but perfect it's not! motch |
