Driving in the "Fast Lane"

Is it just me or does it seem like there is a need to reeducate people on driving etiquette and the use of the left (fast) lane? Lately it seems like every where I go I’m getting caught behind someone driving in the fast lane that has all the time in the world to get to their destination. I try flashing my high beams for them to move over, but nothing happens. They will continue to drive their speed and I end up having to get over in the right lane to pass them up. I’ve even noticed that the right (slow) lane has become the lane of choice for vehicles needing to pass everyone up.

Help me please! Is it that I need to check myself and slow down and enjoy a slow drive down a freeway in a fast car? What am I missing?

Those folks are doing a great public service by reminding fast drivers of the prescribed speed limit for that section....

Seriously, I know what you mean, its quite annoying I generally do not like to flash my lights, its rather agressive, I just leave my left blinker on (I think this is normal etiquette in most parts of the world?) to let the car in front me know that I am hauling the mail....

Drive safe...

LOL @ "hauling the mail"

I find if you come up behind someone fast enough they usually move out of the way (I seriously think having xenon lights helps too for some reason). If I'm really pissed/rushed I'll flash the beams but you never know what kind of psycho you're going to encounter so I avoid doing it usually.

The Left lane in the US is not the "Fast Lane". It is the "passing" lane. I never drive in the left most lane unless I am specifically trying to pass someone. Once I pass them I move right over to the right.

Obviously situations like dense traffic changes things a bit but it is still the proper way to drive.

I hate it when im in the car with someone who immediately goes to the left most lane and just cruises there. Even if they are going 75mph and the rest of traffic is going 75mph, if you can go 75mph in a slower lane then do it! reserve the left lane for passing only. It is a hell of a lot safer.

When I am in charge of transport for the US I am going to make it a law that you cannot pass anyone on the right without being given a huge fine. Knowing that people to the right are always going slower than people on your left is a good thing.

It is kind of stubborn of me I know, but i like to practice it. I'm the one on a two lane highway (like I-5 in california) cruising at 90mph in the right lane, but as soon as I approach someone going 80mph in the left lane, I'll slow down to 80mph, get behind them, make them switch lanes to the right, I'll pass them on the left, and then immediately go back to the right lane and bring my speed back up to 90mph.

I especially hate it when you have to pass them on the right and see that they are on their CELL PHONES unaware of everything around them.
