Very SERIOUS Issue with my 325i!!

Today my car went in for an early oil change (7300 miles). I have also been having a problem for a couple days with shifting into fourth gear(manual tranny). It would go into gear, but it had to be shifted slowly. Come to find out today that the dealership says that I need a new transmission and the problem is something they have never seen before. Has anyone heard of this happening. I have a Feb 06 build 325i. I am most displeased an want to know the answers to a few questions:

1. What will this do to the value of my car?
2. Will it ever be the same after they fix it?
3. Can I refuse repair and get a replacement vehicle?

Any help would be much appriciated!!!

I'm more concerend as to if a repair of this magnitude will severly destroy the value of my car. Its also more than annoying that this brand new car needs such a huge repair job.

no worry, bro. they fix it for you is better than you carrying that problem everyday. and if they can't fix the same problem 3 times, you can claim lemon law.

what if I wanted to trade it in down the line. Will the dealership give me a much lower appraisel of the vehicle's value based upon the repair history.

Nothing, absoluting positively nothing, quit fixating.

Since it isn't working so good now, no it won't be the same ... it'll be better because it'll be fixed.

You can try. Tell your dealer, see what they say and then maybe contact BMWNA. Personally, I think it's a completely unreasonable request. I'd be peeing myself with joy that the dealer was warrantying it; not claiming it was my fault and demanding I pay for the repair.

can't help being a bit of a smart a$$ here, but:

how do you think it will affect the value of the car if you left the old tranny in there?

It sucks that you've got a problem with your car so early on in its life, but it's pretty unreasonable to ask for a replacement without letting them try to fix the problem first.

and if you ever resell the car, having a newer transmission can be a bonus to the buyer cause he knows he shouldn't have to worry about the transmission.

Having the tranny replaced will only INCREASE the value of you car as it is now. Imagine trying to seel you car as it is to a (private) buyer but telling him/her "careful of 4th gear, it's not too good". end of sale at $0.00.

Now replacing the tranny, breaking it in and then trying to sell the car will be easy as there aren't any issue to contend with.

Go for the tranny change ASAP and enjoy your car as it should.

All the best.

Sure it may be dispappointing that your car requires such a repair, but no car is perfect and BMW is doing the right thing by reparing it "no questions asked". Just accept the situation & move on since it will have no impact on the quality or resale of your car.

Can't believe you think it would increase or decrease the value of your car ... this is far more affected by its condition / mileage and whether you curb the alloys or not...

1. Nothing
2. No, it will be worse (I'm be scarcastic)
3. Sure, but you're not getting a replacement vehicle.

Let's be calm...it's a manual transmission, which is no big deal. Would you feel the same way if your clutch had to be replaced? Or maybe your rear differential?

#1- Be thankful that BMW isn't saying you fuked up the transmission and you have to pay to have it fixed.
#2- I know this is an expensive car, probably more expensive then you're comfortable with, but remember..it's just a car.

The money is much less of an issue than the priciple of the matter. At any rate, they ordered a new tranny from Germany today and said it would take at least a week and a half to get it here. Looks like I'm without my car for a couple of weeks.
In other news, They have my fathers 750i right now because of the noises that the engine makes when it idles. They finally came out with a software correction for that vehicle. The service manager at my dealership said that these cars sound downright embarassingly loud (and shakes the car) when started up in the morning when its cold outside.

Think of it this way.

What's the value of the car with a bad tranny?
