335i switch out for e46 m3?
Ive yet to drive an m3. Ive been considering JB3 or the competitors but im not in the economic stance for purchasing any of them especially cause of the warranty issues. I understand a used m3 is a lot cheaper and a friend of mine is a mechanic so im not too worried about problems. what u guys think?

They're completely different cars
Basics is 335i for straight line, M3 for twisties. I love the e46, but it is getting old...

Why are you looking at a change? I guess you need to decide what is important to you.The M3 has a harsher ride and better handling, and both are about as fast (at least in a straight line). If you want some occasional track time and enjoy the twisties, or just plain like the E46 styling, the M3 is the obvious choice. The 335 is no slouch either on the track or twisties, just not the best choice.
If you are wary of the JB3, consider the JB+. Very easy install and removal... about 5 min after you do it once, and inexpensive. Noticeable performance gains, even at the default 50%.

I would say... No Deal. If you don't have money to spend on cars, why pay $1kish on taxes, tags, etc? Plus the depreciation hit you will take on the 335i... just to move to something with really similar performance. If you don't have money to put a $500 mod into the 335, you won't have money to put $500 into the E46.

Why buy old technology for what you already have? I got the best of both worlds when I installed my Quaife diff from Harold at HPAutowerks. A Wavetrac wasn't available at the time, but any limited slip diff would be better than the open diff that you currently have. That is the difference between an old M3 and your ride, an LSD. Two wheels putting power to the pavement is better than one. You don't need a JB3. To me, 300HP/300TQ is plenty. Just adding LSD improves performance, safety......and.......FUN!!! For a review of my take on LSDs, read the folowing and then call Harold, who is up the road from you in LA, and then get your mechanic friend to install it : http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ghlight=quaife |

Plus the M car will have much higher maintenance costs, which due to age, it will be needing more of. I debated on an E46 M3 instead of my E90 330i, since the prices were similar. Then I did some digging around on the forums. Just one example, a water pump for an E46 is about $230, for the E46 M3 its over $500. That "M" badge adds a hefty price tag to parts and service.
