Had my car "Stage 2 Procede" dynoed.....:(

My car has been throwing a few codes recently, "Cat ineffiency" and "Misfire in Cylinder 1". Well I cleared the codes and went yesterday and had the car dynoed..first thing the guys at the shop said was that they could hear and feel that the car was misfiring.

The car made 338rwhp and 360wtq...STD 84F.
10-9 Beta Map (Stage 2) "93 Octane"
User Torque was set to 83%
Ignition Correction 75%
My mods are listed in my sig below..

I had the car dynoed a month ago at the same shop when I had the JB+ and stock downpipes and it made 323rwhp and 353wtq.. I am kind of dissapointed with such minimal gains coming from a JB+ to a Procede w/ AR Catless downpipes. Could this be a result of the misfires in Cylinder 1?? Does that basically mean that the car is running on 5 cylinders? I have seen Stage 1 Procede cars using 91 octane make 370+rwhp..Where is the power? I have a set of spark plugs on the way, I will install those and see if that helps, but I don't see me gaining another 40+whp from changing them. Any thoughts?

There is something wrong with the car. Remove the tune and see how the car goes without it. If it throws codes just take it to the dealer.

If you're misfiring, you need to change your plugs. And you'll be happy with the results after that. Pretty simple. Don't despair. Also, when you are running misfire free, try Stg 1 first as it is probably going to be a better match for your set up. Stg 2 is typically reserved for cars running aftermarket dps and a catback. But feel free to try it and see if it make more power. Also, get your cat inefficiency code issue solved before dynoing. You wont make full power unless you achieve catalyst readiness. Until then, your DME will run retarded timing. This is one of the downsides with installing catless components. Yes, they make power. But only if your DME is happy with them.

yeah, that's pretty low for stage 2... definitely something wrong. I made 360 on stage 2 without downpipes.

Did you write that correctly? There should only be four digits/letters when dealing with DME hexadecimal codes. And 5 numbers when converting them to DME codes in decimal format. With what tool are you reading it?

29CD is misfire cylinder 1. Since u ruled out plugs, the next step is to swap cyl1 and cyl2 coils and see if the misfire follows the coil. If it does, you have a weak coil and it should be replaced.

Also, if you have a 6at, try running the 6at maps as they roll off boost slightly at the shift which is where 6ats are most misfire prone.

The 2aaf code is just fuel pump implausibility which is normal for many tuned (and even some stock cars). Its a silent code (no limp/light) and nothing to worry about.

You're almost there... Don't give up. With your previous tune, you were only running lower boost pressures which didn't ask much from your ignition system. With full boost tunes, the coils and plugs must work properly. Coils should last the life of the car under most circumstances. But expect to replace plugs every 15k or more if you routinely race and run race gas/very high boost.

Ok, I will try swapping the ignition coils and see if the misfire goes to cylinder 2.. I will let you know, thanks for the help!
P.S. just to make sure cylinder 1 would be the one nearest to the front of the car or engine bay, correct?

So I swapped the ignition coil from cylinder 1 to cylinder 2 and got the following codes today, 10740, 10741.. Both cat inneffiency codes, no misfire code yet.

When was your last BMW software update? There are issues with the current REV II settings and running catless which Vishnu is currently addressing.

Sounds good. Just go ahead and activate the o2 sim now by setting it to 80%. Thy should take care of the two cat ineffiiency codes. If not, I'll have new o2 logic later this week (new firmware) that should do the trick regardless of DME software version.

Ok, well I got the same misfire in cylinder 1 today "29CD"... This is after I switched the ignition coil from cylinder 1 to cylinder 2.. Any idea what it could be that is causing the misfire since I already changed the plugs and swapped coils??

At this point, it is more likely injector #1. And that is a dealership job since it requires a new injector and a DME recalibration which is probably a good idea given how much better the new DME versions run than older versions. All you need to do is remove the PROcede and take it to the dealership. Just don't erase the misfire code.

They can not void your warranty only refuse to do service on something your mods could have reasonably broke.
