Titanium 3" catless downpipes - any interest?
Looking into sourcing some high grade titanium to fabricate exhaust/downpipes with. Any interest? ~30%+ weight savings, and an undeniable bling factor.

So more interest for a cat-back vs downpipes? They will NOT be $699. The material is SUPER expensive. Heh, I even had one place quote me $150/ft for 3" tube....

+1 on the Ti DP back exhaust.........Dixis is just WAY too much. I priced out a set of their Ti midpipes and exhaust, and it came out to be something like 4500 bucks. The rear exhaust section is over 3k.
I guess affordable Ti exhaust is an oxymoron......LOL. This is the part where the appropriate phrase "you pay to play" comes in for real!

My guess i that your current DP are already plenty bling enough for the majority of the people here (They look like trophy worthy pieces!). For something that you can't see installed it would be hard to justify paying significantly more money for imo.
Someone needs to come out with an exhaust that sounds good and doesn't cost an arm and a leg with nice looking tips.

IMO, since the DPs are a relatively small part of the full exhaust (from the turbos) it isn't worth producing Ti DPs because the weight savings would be negligible.
However, I'd definitely be interested in an *affordable* full Ti DP back exhaust... and if you were to produce a full Ti turbo-back exhaust, I think that would justify manufacturing DPs in Ti. Also... the exhaust note would HAVE to be aggressive and unique, a la DIXIS JP. None of this "slightly louder than stock for 5 grand" Akrapovic nonsense

Way to go bro making downpipes that are more expensive and provide the same exact thing as stainless steel exept " it will look really cool" and you will never see it expect 2 times the day you install it and the day you uninstall it. GL with your $2000 downpipes

I like the idea, but for double the cost, saving 6lbs doesnt sound like a great performance bargain. I would definately buy a used set for a little more than standard new DP's though

A full Turbo-Back titanium exhaust system would be killer. I bet you could lose atleast 70 pounds off the car even if you left it as a dual 2.5" system (well I guess plus the 3" swollen DP's). It would be even better if it could be had for under $2500.
I am hoping for a full Ti TB exhaust, probalby single 3" or maybe slightly larger, for a Single Turbo upgrade in the future |

I love the tone of titanium exhaust systems but take into account the cost and the fact that people may be going to a single turbo upgrade would make it a PITA to deal with. If the system were less expensive and modular to cater for upgraded twins or large single upgrades... that would be killer. I'm wondering what turbo AR is running in their shop car right now

IMO 3k (although not cheap) is a pretty decent price for a full exhaust made entirely from titanium. But even in that case, I'd probably still wait until I get a turbo upgrade so I wouldn't have to buy the ypipe.
What I can't figure out is how ppl justify paying in excess of 1500 for just mufflers! Eisenmann race costs over 2k and it weighs as much as stock! At least for 3k the materials are excellent and the weight savings would be incredible. @Andrew: Have you guys done an exhaust with inconel yet?
