For regular 3's, sometime around March or February of 2009 (manufacture date) BMW stopped making 3's pre-wired for alarms. You either get it as a factory option or you didn't get a BMW alarm after that date. Before that build date they came pre-wired and you can add it to the car. You can buy the hardware for around $250 at some sites, but the programming will vary quite a bit from dealer to dealer.

Yes, you can pay someone to run the wiring but that would be prohibitively expensive, so it's not a real option. Lots of threads on this if you want to research more.

There were some threads that suggested you can turn on the chirp even without an alarm. I'm not sure if that is correct or not.

I don't see how. The sound generator that makes that chirp is part of the alarm module as far as I know and the sound comes from the driver's side rear quarter panel, where the module is installed. No alarm module = no chirp.

I hope they've changed the chirp to something better in the new 7er. That chirp is so annoying when the car is in the garage.

IMO it's frankly ridiculous that even 3 series don't come with alarms stock, and the idea that they are now not even pre-wiring is even dumber. I know alarms are kind of old-school in that it's all but impossible to steal a modern BMW without the key, but I still like the idea that the car will audibly object to someone messing with it.

True, but I am not aware of any significant number of flatbed truck thieves where I live.

I completely agree.

I'm interested too. I have a 2009 E90, production date is 05/09. I assume I would need the wiring harness to get the blinking clown nose light enabled. Please PM with price and ordering info. The mObridge BT for 2009 will be next. Thanks for providing these solutions.

You will need a harness, which is not ready yet. We will announce here once it is complete and for sale.
