Best HK roads to test handling of e90?
Greetings, I have purchase a e90 325i for a few months and wonder where is the best place to test its handling on Hong Kong roads. So far I have chosen some two lane twisties such as:
1. Shek O Road to Big Wave Bay 2. Clearwater Bay Road/ Tai O Mun Road 3. Tai Mong Tsai Road to Sai Kung 4. Ting Kok/ Bride's Pool Road in Tai Mei Tok 5. Route Twisk to Tai Mo Shan I would like to know which of the above roads are the best to test handling, also which roads I have not listed above can be use for handling and testing for the e90? P.S- Which location/time are the police known to put up speed traps? Many thanks! |

My personal two cents.
For trying out the car handlings, I will pick item 1 & 5 for the twisties and ups/downs. And for 1, I would suggest you from Big Wave Bay all the way to Deep Water Bay along the southern coast line. You asked about the speed trap? Are you serious to expect someone to reply you on that?

Thanks! Much appreciated! Do you know other good roads to test out the bimmer?
P.S- From my experience, besides the speed cameras, the police loves a fixed location to do radar speed traps. I see them in the same spot all the time on certain roads, so I don't think it hurts to ask. (Not that I am some extreme speedster, but best to be careful of any speeding blackspots on the above routes) |

whichever route you take, I will advise against testing b4 macau gp.
for 5, the road surface changes (concrete to tarmac) in a few places + there r quite a lot of manholes that you need to watch out. happy and safe driving.

Yeah, good advice, I have noticed lots of loud VROOM VROOM noise at 1-2:00am lately, must be preparing for the macau gp. I usually don't drive that late, but best to steer clear of those guys.

I think what kcleung meant is actually during this pre-macau gp, the road control is "a bit" strict, rather than there are "gp rehearsals" out there
btw, no need to be afraid of the speed check, if you just follow the speed limits

My misunderstanding. Anyway, I am a safe and responsible driver most of the time. I generally don't exceed the speed limit (well, maybe a little). If someone tailgate or try to provoke me into a race I just let them pass. However, there are times when the road allows you to hit the gas. Especially in a small place like Hong Kong, you've got to seize every opportunity to try out the bimmer's potential. Which is why if a route present itself, I have to try it out.

Thanks for your invitation! I will ask my friend if she is interested to come. Will tell you whether I can come as soon as I know. By the way, my 325i is only a third-hand 2005 model, so it may look rather pedestrian compared to your fellow 335i/M3 models, hope you won't mind, haha.

Darn, I have a prior appointment on Saturday, so I'm afraid I can't join your met. Such a shame, I really wanted to come and share bmw stories with you guys and also get introduced to the hong kong bimmer community. Oh well, have to wait until next time. But thanks for the invitation, do inform when you have the next casual dinner.
Cheers, Wolfman |
