Nokia N96 Pairing

I’ve been trying with limited success to pair my Nokia N96 with the car, the two have paired, I can make and receive calls but I can’t view my contacts, the remote sim option on the phone is on. I’ve deleted them from each other and re-paired a number of times but doesn’t seem to make any difference.

Also I’ve updated the phone so it has the latest software on, doing this seemed to have no effect either any ideas anyone?

I have been trying the same with a Nokia 5530, works ok in my E92 but without phone book but very tricky to get installed in the X5. It does pair and connects and then just sits saying "please wait" on the screen. I have let this sit for 10 mins or so and nothing more happens. Then when i switch the car off and on again it sometimes connects but more often does not.

There are lots of threads on the Net about this, downloading the 810 Contacts Downloader or 616 Downloader seems to work for a lot of people, as does switching off any Sync options.

I could never successfully pair my old N96 with my 330d. Firstly it just wouldn't work full stop but then I downloaded some software onto the phone which effectively made my phone think it was a hands-free kit (think the software was Nokia's own car-kit software you can download online). My phone would then work but not all the time. It would attach via bluetooth and then disconnect itself every few minutes. A complete pain in the arse. The phone book never worked but at least you could occassionally make a call!!!

Basically BMW's software is not compatible with the Nokia Symian software. No amount of tinkering with it helps. It's very strange though because some people get different degrees of compatibililty with the car & N96.

It's certainly the N series of phones where you have problems. I've now got the N97 which just doesn't work at all.
