Have BMW updated the 335D? Also updates to 335i ?

After looking on the BMW web site at approved used, I noticed that the very latest 335d's have better improve in mpg and slightly in 0-60 details are -

Older models
PerformanceTop speed (mph): 155 0-62 mph (secs): 6.1
Fuel consumptionUrban (mpg): 27.4Extra Urban (mpg): 47.9Combined (mpg) 37.7

Newest models
PerformanceTop speed (mph): 155 0-62 mph (secs): 5.9
Fuel consumptionUrban (mpg): 31.0Extra Urban (mpg): 53.3Combined (mpg) 42.2

What changes have they made if any?
Engine specs are the same, could it be impovements to the gearbox?

I think there is a new turbo set-up and also an Alloy engine block amongst other changes. Do not forget, b,w figures are rather conservative. Original 335d's were doing 0-60mpg in 5.7-5.8 secs.

Using the speedo reading yes. They all read about 5% optimistic so you are getting to 62 'quicker' than you should be. 5% added on to 5.8 secs is 6.1!!

It would not be in BMW's interest to make their performance figures worse than actual life would it?

Using my GPS based Pogo Alert I can set the cruise to 50mph when in average cameras on the motorway. The cars speedo is reading nearer 55mph.

No that was actually with GPS based equipment. A forum member did this.

The car magazine reports ive read also used proper equipment for standard models, which DID DO 5.7 secs 0-60 Paul.

Anyone who times with there speedo and claims figures is a fucking moron LOL.

Did that change not come in with the 2008MY when they introduced the Efficient Dynamics?

Not on the 335d. Still the same engine as previous, but with a few Efficient Dynamics bits added.

Well they did something because the 08MY was in a low tax band due to lower emissions and that normally goes with better fuel economy.

If not, the performance/economy changes could easily be achieved thought software. I mean look at what the remap guys on here are getting.

Like I said, they added a few of the Efficient Dynamics bits. That changed the emissions performance of the engine for the better, hence why the lower tax band.

If the upcoming facelift (LCI) E92 runs on the next gen RFTs and has the new Diesel engine ... I may be persuaded to change. Maybe after a year or so, giving them time to iron out any little niggles.

So .. when will the 335d get the 306hp engine? Coupe LCI?

Will the 335i get an upgrade then as well?

Why has the 535i GT got a single turbo?

That 535i N55 engine uses a twin scroll turbo.

I expect next upgrade for the 335i will be the all aluminium block from the 330i.

good point, and a badge move from 335D to 340D would appeal those that like to have the best, biggest, baddest of the range.

But why is the 535i twin scroll rather than bi-turbo. The review I read complained about lag.

I also thought that their were concerns about the strength of the mag / alloy engine blocks, which was why the 330i engine was not used in the first place?

As I understand it, the new 335i and 335d engines are coming through in March '10.
