Service appoint turns into yet another PUMA...
Not sure why, but what I thought would be a simple service call has resulted in the 2nd PUMA case on my car.
BMW Assist button never worked on my car. It's less than a year old. Took it in to get it hooked up per my sales person who said it would be simple. "Probably not activated". OK... So I take it in and add oil change and adjust aim of my HID lamps at 7am. No phone call all day. I call them at 4:30. Still on the lift, 'We are waiting for BMW to advise how to handle BMW Assist problem". I asked why they would not diagnose and perhaps ISTA from 33.0.2 to 35. SA didn't know what ISTA was. OMG. He adds, they have to get approval to upgrade computer. Really? So it will be Friday when they expect a call back on the PUMA. Has anyone heard that BMW Assist issues "automatically get escalated to PUMA's" Seems wrong to me. Why didn't dealer do a full scan for codes and then upgrade DME on their own? At least I got a 535i loaner for a couple days. |

BMW Assist is hooked up to the TCU. If you have the premium package, does your bluetooth work?

Yes sir. Have a Blackberry and it's paired up just fine. I know there's a code in there somewhere that the dealer hasn't found. Damned if I'll tell them what it is as I found it with my BavTech tool. It's not related unless the TCU interfaces with the module that has the code. Think it happened when they installed the XM receiver. MOST/CAN gateway CD73/MD73 E18F Central registry does not match with debit configuration |

I think the xm receiver might be hooked up to the TCU too since it goes up to the shark fin. I think the problem lies in that.

Update.
BMW just now approved replacing TCU... Car been in service 5 elapsed days. PUMA is slooooow. Only possible highlight is car gets reprogramed after TCU goes in. SA didn't know what ISTA or anything about questions on version. I said I was at 33.0.1 and was wondering if car would get 35. |
