Tire pressure in vehicle computer?

is there some way to check the tire pressure on the vehicle computer? There's a setting that asks you to set the tpms display to psi or kpa, why have this if you cant check the pressure through the stalk on the steering column?

i searched the computer, but havent found anything

if you have iDrive, you can find it the menu, it'll let you know which tire is low, but if you do not have iDrive, it'll you tell you are low but not which tire is the issue...either way, it will not tell you the actual pressure in the tires...crappy for a 40k car

i don't have iDrive? but its weird that it asks you to specify the units if it wont display the pressure

The system isn't designed to tell you absolute pressures that's why the functionality is not there. When you reset the system it sets the reading from each corner as a baseline and then trips the light if the reading goes below the allowed threshold. At no time the computer is aware of the actual absolute pressure and for the purposes of this sensor that information is irrelevant.

I think it'd be cool to have the tire pressure readings available in from the dash..

Its good to have a cheap tire pressure pen gauge in the glovebox and check the tires regularly

The BMW tire system doesn't measure tire pressure. It works by measuring the size of the tire as it rotates. If it looses air it gets smaller and that is what is detected and alerts the system and driver. Has nothing to do with pressure except that tires at pressure are larger then those that are flat. That is how they work...

In the BMW system the distance the tire rotates is measured and as long as that doesn't change the system assumes the tire is inflated. If a tire deflates it gets smaller and travels a shorter distance on each rotation and alerts the system. On American systems there is a small RF transmitter assigned a number one to four and transmits the pressure to receiver that displays it. It is in the wheel and the receiver must be reprogrammed if you move a wheel to a different location on the car.

I just traded from an '08 Infiniti M that displayed the pressure of 4...but not the spare.

If you have a FTMs (Flat Tire Monitor) system, usually found in 2006 and 2007 3-series, it will not give you the tire pressure on your computer.

When the tire gets flat, it simply informs you that one of your tires is flat.
