Lol
You seem to be very partial to your car. Probably were that way when you sat down in the car.. FYI your car is .8 seconds faster than the 328. I had a loaner 328xi LCI while my 335i was in for service, I loved it. Simple, plain, and down to the point. How is your loaner "Uncomfortable"? Simply because it has leatherette??? Lol... |

If you had a MT 330i and they gave you an automatic 328xi then it's explainable...

Meh. I love the 330i engine very much, but as said the 328 isn't much slower. If your 330 is 6MT and the 328 is AT, that explains the difference you're feeling. The 328 is a very different car with an MT.

I had a 328i AT stripped loaner when my 335i was in for service. I came to the same conclusion... 328i with AT is just not a good mix. I'm sure with a MT it would have been fine, though. I did like one thing about the 328i over the 335i... the engine sounds better! I liked the more refined whirr of the 328i over the mad snarl of the 335i. And, you could actually rev the 328i up and hear it for a reasonable amount of time. If you rev up the 335i, it accelerates so quickly, you are going 70+ in no time and probably need to let off the gas!

they both have the same engine dont they? why wud they be so different. the 330 has a different tuned suspension, and some other differences but the 328 and 330 shud be fairly similiar in performance. Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

I don't understand how you "HATE" a 328 loaner? I rented a 328i AT base model from Hertz in LA and this is why I bought a BMW in the first place. After running the piss out of that little 328 through rush hour on I-10 Monday morning, up to Pomona to Auto Club Raceway for the NHRA Finals, and then out to Malibu and down the PCH, I fell in love with BMW. I never understood why people liked these cars, to me I couldn't get excited about a sedan or coupe that didn't post large HP numbers (M cars excluded) or in my mind at the time appear exciting to drive. I thought it was all about the nameplate. I was dead set on a CTS-V or Corvette. The little 328 you hate is what changed my mind about BMWs and three weeks after coming home from LA I bought my 335i and I couldn't be happier. Next stop M3 (in about 3 years).

Similar engine, the 330 produces about 25HP more. Though 0-60 times aren't very different - the 330 might be 1/2sec faster to 60. It has larger brakes also.

Perhaps you should be happy they gave you a 328i rather than a 335i because then you would be severely disappointed getting back into your 330i.
