Does it bother anybody else that...
BMW's naming convention is no longer faithful to engine size? Just read about the 6 cylinder 740 that will have a 3.0 liter I6. I miss the godd old days when the last 2 digits indicated the engine size.

You realize your 335 isn't even accurate, right? :P

In the 80's, the 745i did not use a 4.5 liter engine either (this was the model prior to the E32). It was a turbocharged 3.5 liter engine, I think. Regards, Adnan |

It irks me a bit, and yes, I know 335 is 'wrong.' Obviously, I was able to move past it!

We've talked about this before. Some have suggested it would have been cool if the 325/328, 330, and 335 were maybe all called 330 and with an appropriate designation, like 330i, 330si, and 330ti.

This has been going on for years, even at the 3 series level (ex. BMW NA imported e46 323s, with 2.5 liter engines). If it didn't bother anyone then, why would it bother anyone now?

This is nothing new. BMW have been doing this for decades.
-The V8 from the 740i/540i was a 4.4L, the 318i had a 1.9L and the 323i had a 2.5L in the 90's -The M20B27 from the 325e/525e was a 2.7L Six. in the '80s |

no, the whole >z4 Sdrive35i< thing does though, then they'll add >effecient dynamics<... soon there will be no more space on the trunk
other than that who cares really, imo de-badged is better anyways |

The thing that bothers me the most is the stupid "sDrive" and "xDrive" badges...I mean what the hell does sDrive even stand for? And now they will have a Z4 sDrive35is? That is just ridiculous IMO.

I didn't mind this naming scheme on the X3, X5, and X6. But on a Z or regular car model I think it is out of place.
