Port Charlotte, Fl Area

Does anyone know if it is possible to build a 60K house on a plot of land in port charlotte, fl? Or is more money needed to undertake building a home there. I am in Long Island, Ny so I pose this question to the Florida residents. Thank you.

Not trying to be a jerk at all... just curious if it's even possible to find homes, anywhere at $60k.

I'm not an expert, but my 2 cents:

Port Charlotte is definitely cheaper than say Miami, Tampa, Palm Beach, etc, but I don't think you could build something that cheap... When you say $60k, I am thinking you are not including a lot... Lots there vary very widely in price based on factors such as: waterfront vs inland, boat access/slip, etc.. Theoretically I guess if you found a lot w/o zoning you could put a $60k dwelling on it, but I severly doubt it. Plus, if the dwelling was a P.O.S., you would only end up getting the price for the land at resale anyway...

Port Charlotte in general was hot when everything was booming, but now I think you would be safer in a more established FL town, since there is still a lot of wide open space down there.

No I mean I already own the plot of land in PC, Fl, I want to build a house, can I get a house built for 60K? Because if not then i'll just keep the plot of land for future endevours, perhaps if after I graduate college and get a real job, earn some income and then build a good house on it. After all im only 19 y/o, Thanks for the smart ass answer everyone, LOL fucking dumbasses if you read my OP correctly, I said I already own/have the plot of land and looking to build the dwelling.... In retrospect, I assumed it's florida so building a decent house wasn't that complicated. I know PC is somewhat of a middle class area, so I didnt know more than 60K was needed to build a decent dwelling in this neighborhood.

Well comparing Palm Beach to Tampa is apples and oranges, I don't live in FL but even I know that. Palm Beach is Palm Beach, Billionaires Row.

You did not say you own/have a plot of land.. I even said in my post that I didn't think you meant the land was included in the $60k, but I was just confirming. Sorry to get you so worked up for trying to help...

Well, If you want to live downtown Tampa, expect to pay at least 500,000 for a place. Its not as cheap as you think.

How big of a house? According to a home cost estimator I found online (yeah I know I have no life) the cheapest it could basically be in that area is $114,492.00 and that is for a 2000sq ft house not including a garage.

You will not get a contractor to look at your plans for 60k.
We build custom 2000 sq ft in Cape Coral for 300k (lot included not waterfront)
The market has taken a down turn so if you want to live in FL you will be able to buy a foreclosure very soon for less than what you can build for.
Nothing wrong with Port Charlotte. Nice area. I own land there also.
BTW the workmanship in FL is usually shit IF you don't have a custom home built because of the Mexican workers who work for shit wages, forcing the tradespeople out.

I did not say tampa was cheap, but putting tampa in the same category as palm beach is absurd.

I am very sure you can built a house for $60K from scratch. But it will be a very small house, mayve 1 br, 1bth,1 small kitchen, and 1 small living room. No, not trying to be a smart*** here. If you built one of those beach house (small house), I am sure it can be done for around $60K. But it might be a 1K square feet house. You did not tell us what sort of house you are building so there are lots of room for interpretation.

Ok thank you that's all the responses I needed for this inquiry, it seems I would need to take out more money for the construction of my PC home. Or just try to get my dad to front me the rest of it.
