Will there ever be a 340i?

No one ever expected BMW to release a car called the BMW 335i. Do you think they will release a 340i?

Let's see: A 3-series body and a 4.0 liter engine (maybe with like 414HP)....nope, nothing comes to mind.

BMW doesn't use numbering based on engine displacement anymore. BMW 335i is a 3L engine. So is BMW 328i.

I guess the people a few years ago called the E46 M3 a 335i.
Plus a M3 is a lot more than just a 3-series with a bigger engine.

Here's a story, no joke. BMW makes, or made, a rear deck badge "332". The last M3 had a 3.2L engine. I saw one picture of an E46 M3 with 332 markings.

FWIW

When BMW changes engine displacement, the car doesn't always get the correct corresponding engine nomenclature on the badges. (i.e., the E39 540i had a 4.4L motor at one time, the E46 323 had a 2.5L motor, and the other examples above.)

What chasis? I never ever heard of BMW 332i.

I'm going to guess they made it just for the E46 M3, for any smartass who wanted that badge instead of the M3 logo. Off-point: They made a 333i in the early '80s exclusively for South Africa. I've seen, again not in person, a few good-looking examples. A Google search will get more, if you're interested.

BMW still doesn't base it's numbering on engine size anymore. Before, at least it correlated.

Now:

325i - 3L
328i - 3L
330i - 3L
335i - 3L
New N55 engine - 3L
