Question about daytime running lights in Canada

So from what I gather you have to always have the DTR on when driving, but you can turn them off if you are parked. I really like how the E92 uses the Angel eyes for DTR's. Could you not just remove the DTR bulbs to get the same affect on the E90?

why not just bust out the halogen housing?

if you take out the bulbs, you'll get a warning light on your dash + you lose the function of your halogen highbeam (flash to pass)

Does it notify you if the bulbs are dead?

my understanding is that, short of the Grandfather Clause, DTR lights are required by law in Canada. I don't recall off the top of my head if we are able to turn off the DTR lights through the cluster/i-drive. If we can, than you would be able to park with them off (and get your sweet lovin in private)!

you can't turn them off through the cluster/iDrive,
the Canadian version of the cluster/iDrive menu does not have the option of turning off your DRL

I think DRL is good for safety in terms of making people more visible...

I agree with you. I can't believe how many drivers do not turn their lights on at night. At least with the drl's there is something to see and during the daytime it's not a bad thing either.

I do wonder how many drivers don't turn their lights on at night, because they think they are on when in fact, it's just their day runners...

Hi Guys,

Why my DRL is yellowish color even I changed the bulbs to blue color?
Is there a way to make it looks white like Xenon??
if so, what brand of bulb or you guys recommend.

Agreed. People here are so stupid they don't turn their lights on in the rain. Hard to see a grey or silver car on the interstate.

You can still see the Angel eyes.

Actually, in Alberta is is not illegal to disable the DRLs (although it should be). Traffic laws are province specific, but vehicle manufacturer standards are a federal responsibility.

Yup, I see waaay to many premium cars driving around at night without any lighting except for the DRL's. Their owners probably think it's totally automatic, must not occur to them that even the automatic setting has to be switched on. Who knows how they see their instrument cluster... maybe they never look!

In Canada I usually drive with my headlights always on because the DRLs look absolutely horrible on our cars. Using the angel eyes is a cool idea.

On my IS, even the US models come with DRLs but they are very easy to disable.

Exactly! If I want lights, I turn on the HIDs. Look better and more useful.

I used to do that with my Infiniti, then at 53,000km one of the bulbs turned pink so I knew it was close to reaching it's life expectancy. A new bulb from Infiniti was $300 plus tax, and I installed it myself! From that point on I just ran the standard DRL's and preserved my Xenon's for when I needed them at night.
