Question Is the stock FMIC enough for road use?

I have been seriously thinking going for my next mod: FMIC.

However, after reading a lot of posts, I got a little skeptical...

I read some posts that defend that for road use the stock FMIC is good enough, because most of the tests that compare stock vs upgrade are done on the bench so the airflow that reaches the FMIC is a lot weaker than we do see on the road…

For what I understand, and for the comparisons I saw, the upgraded FMIC's don't give much more absolute power than the stock one. They just maintain the power stable pull after pull.

I agree that this may be an issue on the track, but on the road you just can't keep WOT all the time...

From this test one can conclude that even after 5 pulls the stock FMIC doesn't loose that much. And this is not an on the road test, so with more air, the stock should't loose that much on the first place!

So, should I do this upgrade for normal road use?

Regarding FMIC options, I am thinking to go the Forge route (no trimming and sold in Europe), but I didn't find any comments about how much power it can handle... Should it be enough to support other mods that I might want to do in the future?

Im not really sure if this is helpful but I am planning to pretty much only use my car on the street and the only reason why I havent bought an FMIC yet is because I have a meth kit on the way. Otherwise I would definitely go for it. I did 6ish dyno pulls back to back on a stage 1 car and I could see the top end falling off more and more as the car got hotter (this was also on a fairly cool day).

FMIC makes a difference on the road. If you are doing a 3rd gear pull, timing is pulled as the intake temps get pretty high.

Do it.

Well, I'm not sure people are upgrading their FMICs for "absolute power" as they're better reasons behind wanting the upgrade

RBC-
I don't have a tune but installed a FMIC last year because I felt timing being pulled on long, hard uphills last summer. You've got a tune=higher intake temps, so a FMIC should serve you well.

So if you don't have an oil cooler, getting a FMIC is the better option before getting an oil cooler. I thought GIAC and Dinan won't flash the cars without an oil cooler. Is it the FMIC will add power where as the oil cooler only adds safety?

Thumbs up

Ok... Convinced already!

Maybe I will do the downpipes also as I am going to the shop...

Which V4 map are you running with FMIC and with FMIC+DP?

especially as you live in Portugal, with very warm summers, an FMIC really make sense. It is like driving on a winterday.
You can also import an FMIC from the states. I have recently did this and is no problem at all. Transport is fairly cheap, customs depends a bit. A paid only 45CHF import fees for 3(!) FMIC (ordered some for friends as well). FYI, I bought the ETS because of stock fit without trimming and inclusive piping.
