Battery Unplug

If your battery is disconnected do you loose you EQ setting and other various setting? Or is there a backup?

I think they are retained...it's only if you upgrade the software or perform a reset by holding the 2 eject buttons and the volume button down until both drive eject. This reset is of course only for idrive systems. Worst case just write down your presets and settings.
