I remember...When I first fall in Love w' a Bavarian
Imagine a tiny Mediterranean Island in Greece where any other car you ever saw in your life was another French 0.6L, or those little tiny Daihatsu's or anything for that matter south of 1 Litter of Displacement.
Then one day at age of 12 while on your 4 mile walk back home from school something unusual happened, A roar like no other is becoming louder and louder, your heart races, you're wondering WTF is that for the longest time since you can hear it from miles away for so long, then as you make your way up the heel this ground menacing loyalty appears with its headlights popped up and stops you cold, mouth and eyes wide open, books on the ground, heart bounces against the chest. That's exactly what it was for me the first time I saw the 850 CSi (ALPINA B12 Version) Driven by the owner of the biggest resort on my Island of Samos. Sad to admit, but although there have been quiet some very nice models not one of them has made me feel the same way I felt for the 850 CSi that one spring day. (EXCEPT for that one that Never made it, The "1991 BMW Nazca C2") Eternal love at first sight.

Very cool memory, thanks for sharing One of my deepest memories of taking a liking to BMWs was also the first time I saw an 850i, except that it was parked in an Olive Garden (Italian restaurant chain) parking lot in New Jersey.
Although it happened in a much less dramatic way and location than your first sighting, it made a similar impression on me!

Anyone remembers this.........
One of BMW's best-kept secrets is the canceled BMW M8 Prototype. Originally envisioned as a Ferrari competitor, only a single prototype was ever produced, equipped with a special 550 bhp (410 kW) version of the S70 engine, essentially a bored out version of the M70 with experimental multi valve cylinder heads. A common misconception is that this engine eventually ended up in the McLaren F1. However, when this was suggested to McLaren's designer Gordon Murray, the idea was rejected because the engine was overweight and too long for the McLaren F1. A whole new engine was designed which has a closer resemblance to the later euro S50B30 BMW M3 engine. The project was eventually scrapped because BMW decided that there was no market for an M8. The only prototype ever produced (one that was reportedly not even road safe) was locked away by BMW in the company's Giftschrank (poison storage) and has reportedly been destroyed[1]. While the M8 was never produced, it is interesting to note that the 850CSi was also tuned by BMW's "M" division. Aside from sporting an M-tuned engine (as identified by the S suffix instead of the M prefix that a true M car would wear), the car's VIN identifies the car as being built by BMW Motorsport (identified by the WBS prefix) instead of BMW AG (WBA prefix). This effectively identifies the 850CSi as essentially a detuned version of the M8

I'm a huge fan of the 8 series as well. I definitely want one, but don't think they would be the best for a DD lol. I would still get one if I had the chance though. Their was an 850CSI with around 40k miles, and the guy wanted 16k for it. Would have grabbed it if I could have. When I get one someday, definitely going to get the Koenig kit one way or another. Amazing how contemporary that design still is. A couple of shifts of the lines along the sides and they could release it as a new model today. They need an Audi R8 competitor, just don't know if it's profitable or not. I have no idea how well the R8 is selling....

The first time I saw a pic of the M8 was on Popular Mechanics when I was a kid. It was the first BMW I ever fell in love with. The M8 was the very reason I became BMW M owner and a fanatic.

Definitely! I hope BMW returns to this type of front end design sometime in the future. I'd rather that the kidney grills and lights get stretched more horizontally than vertically, as has been the current trend.
