E55 or 335i x-drive
As a former owner of a 2003 E55 (493 hp), what would be the faster "street light king". I am waiting for my (new to me) 2009 335i x-drive 6mt to come in (purchased cross country, on a truck now). In the mean time I ordered the JB3 and dual cone filter. What do you think would be the quicker car up to about 70 mph?

The E55 is a strong car, still miss driving it.
I love the straight line performance of the E55 but I feel old when driving one....so I don't think you'll have the same straight line performance, you do get better road-feel in the 335 (don't know about the xi though). Straight line stock for stock they kill 335:s. |

Yes stock E55 vs modded 335xi. I miss the hell out of my E (owned for 3 years), but the economy of a year ago decided a $700.00 monthly payment was not the best of ideas. The stats on the E were 0-60 in 4.2 with a quarter mile at 12.2. I have seen on the internet modded 335's in the high 11's, Donalds sig says he's running 11.9 before meth. Not sure how close I can get with just the JB3 and dual cone filters.
Thoughts on a 0-60 with just those minor mods?? Last edited by Kalstar1; 02-15-2010 at 07:06 AM.. |

They're cars for different purposes.
E55 is, as you know, not a nimble car. But have a truly great sound, idle or WOT it's great. (Perhaps not so good as the E60 M5 at WOT but idling is not that good to listen to in the M5) I like the fact that neither the 335 or E55 stick out a lot from the rest. The E55 is rather thirsty, bot not really for the ammount of power, the 335 is a lot better in this aspect. Almos standard consumtion, if you want to. This is a big argument for me, fuel consumption. I was looking at the E60 M5 or the 335 and I went with the 335, because it's a saner car, doesn't turns heads and goes for 750 km's with one tank on highways. It's a lot cheaper in all aspects so money is always an issue. Still the 335 has power in ok ammount. Just look straight ahead if you're faced with an E55 in a stop light. He's there to kill you and they do it well....stock vs stock. Cheers! |

e55 all day long. i was just in this situation and chose an e55 over a 335i for a few reasons, one being the level of performance the e55 offers (can make 600rwhp), its alot more car for the money and has all the luxuries you can think of which really makes most of the 335i's seem so basic and not so luxurious.

My buddy just got an e55 and within three weeks he upgraded the heat exchanger, cooling pump, and put a bigger pulley on with a custom tune. All this with new wheels and the renntech automatic lowering system. Dude has deep pockets LOL. We're going to run as soon as I get the cp-e IC (have cp-e exhaust, DPs, standback, charge pipe/tial bov, and bms dci). He'll probably win but I'll report back on the result. We'll both be at the MIR private track day on the 28th.
His car is nice but it seems like a much bigger car than the 335i. They have more power but also more weight. Also, the tune and pulley cost him over $1600. yikes. |
