Ticket For Window Tint!!
Hey guys I need some advice for my friend, here's the story:
so i just got a ticket for illegal window tint, im in tx and had 5% all around...except the front. i wasnt speeding, wasnt doing anything but sitting in the slow lane going the speed limit, and the cop had the nerve to pull me over. apparently the ticket is gonna cost me $200 and quite frankly i dont wanna pay that ridiculous amount of money. so my plan is to re-tint the entire car to abide by the law, plea not guilty, take my car and pics of the car to the pre-trial, as well as a receipt dated before my last inspection from the tint shop saying that the tint is legal and try and get out of the ticket by saying that the officer was mistaken and that i have legal tint. the officer did use a light meter but did not write that down in the citation, nor did he write down the reading on the light meter. with that said, i dont believe that the officer has enough details to fight my argument. unless there are further notes that the officers take that i dont have access to. so how does this sound to u guys? any suggestions? anything i should watch out for? i plan on even telling the prosecutor that my car is outside and that he is welcome to take a look at it. also should i say that i dont know the method the officer used to determine the window tint was illegal? (but it would be on their police video wouldnt it?) or should i say that he used some gadget that idk wut it is, but that it was faulty cuz my tint is not illegal? thanx for the help!! |

Cool. Except the cops word will beat your word. They'll also throw you in jail for lying if they catch on.
You broke the law, you knew it when you tinted your windows. Its a perfect excuse for pulling somebody over. Man up and pay the ticket. |

Do you enjoy bending over for the "law"? I'm not paying $200 to fund this whore's tiny ass city, population of 700. It should have been a fix it ticket or warning at most. Last edited by DougLikesBMW; 02-24-2010 at 03:33 AM.. |

Maybe she smelt douche bag and forwent the warning? And as an aside, lying in court is perjury. Claiming the officer is too retarded to notice the difference between 5% and 35% by getting your car retinted and providing it as evidence is called falsifying evidence. All if which can lead you to getting bent over by the law and then repeatedly ass raped for a number of years. http://articles.sfgate.com/2008-01-3...t-intersection |

What did the 3 passengers witness? The cop using the light meter and telling you have 5% tint, which is illegal? 5% is limo tint, whether the windows up or down, its dark as shit. Also remember, just because it isn't written on the ticket doesn't mean it isn't written on the paper work that the cop wrote up after giving you the ticket. |

and apparently u dont know all too much about 5% tint...with the windows down...more light comes in..with more light...the tint doesnt seem as dark. you cant tell what percentage a tint is when there is only a bit of the window showing. |

I've gotta agree with JayKay on this one. Sure, not all law enforcement would pull you over for a tint and you might get away with it indefinately, but when you got the tint you knew it was illegal and you did get pulled over for it, so just pay the fine and move on. Fabricating a story and the "evidence" to go along with it is only going to get you into deeper trouble. Think of what you're risking to get out of that $200 ticket.

Another thing. He may have written all of the particulars about your stop on his copy of the ticket. Just because there is nothing on the front doesn't mean anything. One time I was coming home from work late at night and had to take a detour through an unfamiliar area. I was really tired and wound up slow rolling through a stop sign. I was upset and I told the cop about how I thought he was out there to trap people. I gave the ticket to a friend for some help and he got it reduced but he said "next time just keep your mouth shut". The cop had written all the details on his copy of the ticket.

When you go to court just tell the judge you now have legal tint, show him the proof and ask for a reduction to a seatbelt or something. Anyway, man up, you had illegal tint and knew it.

I think it is better to fix it and try to get a reduction instead of lying and risk getting caught

1. Stopping you for your illegal tint is a justified traffic stop. What makes you think it isn't?
2. You got metered at 4 which is illegal. Regardless if you think it was 7, it's illegal. You have to remember your factory glass still has a faint amount of tint inside the glass from the factory, hence the lower reading. As others have said, fix it and ask for a reduction in fine. If you're planning to lie, the officer already metered your window tint and you will most likely lose. Either that or pay the ticket and move on.

You're reasoning is generally retarded.
It doesn't matter if you're looking at the light meter or not. Sure, the tint looks lighter with the windows down. BUT ITS STILL 5% TINT. You know whats looks even lighter with the windows down? Legal tint. You're in the wrong. Just man up. Get your shit retinted to something legal and plead some BS no seat belt ticket or something. Either way its going to cost you. |
