I want a Wii, and I don't think that there will as big of a problem finding a Wii as there will be with the PS3

You may be kind of late. My boyfriend's friends got on a list for like 4 or 5 and they only ended up getting just 1 of them. They're selling it on ebay now if you're interested. It's under xlerate93.

yeah, aren't you supposed to reserve those things?..if that's the case, then what's the point of waiting in line because each store is getting a limited supply and all of it must be reserved?

i don't think so either. there will be 4,000,000 Wii units available worldwide by 12/31/06 so they're definitely not taking the cliche "let's release 10 units per store" route that both M$ and Sony decided to take to hype up their importance and attractiveness.

I think it is probably a good thing because of all the scams people pull when a product like this is going to be red hot till inventories can be built up to handle the initial demand.

Wii is going to be readily available because Nintendo's already admitted that they'll make a small profit off each unit sold, instead of the 360/PS3 model of losing money on hardware to sell software.

My take on the shortage is hype marketing. Even if they could manufacture enough, they'd sell more units if they had them sitting on shelves for the christmas season but people'd forget about it pretty quick afterward. Instead draw out your interest by trickling them into stores and keep people hungry to get one. Especially when you're loosing money on each unit produced. Maximize that launch hype.

Worked on me anyway. I wasn't going to bother with the 360 until they were readily available, but because of all the demand, I got hooked and had to have one.

I'm trying to resist the draw of the PS3. It's already damn expensive, the additional annoyance of trying to score one and the Wii being readily available? Sony will get to say they sold out but ultimately I think Nintendo will steal the show like they've done with the DS Lite.

Eventually I know I'll have to have a PS3 for the F1 game. Used to be for GT, but Forza was pretty damn good.

I had to list the PS3 for my friends since the new PS3 selling policy is so strick on eBay. I have two friends that work at GameStop and had 5 PS3's on reserve. Gamestop passed a thing saying you can only have one on reserve, regardless if you are employed by them or not. They are trying to help prevent people from buying a dozen and selling them all.

Pre-order slips are going for $1200-$2000 on eBay right now.

I'll be picking up a Wii before Christmas. I don't even have an HDTV in my house and I prefer PC games, so in addition to the very reasonable price it makes good sense to me. Guess I'm getting it for the novelty of the controller and incase I have friends over who I need to keep entertained...

Edit: Does anyone remember when the PS2 came out? People were breaking into other people's cars if they saw a PS2 box inside. Insane.
