New HPFP - Reprogram?

Those of you that have had the HPFP replaced, did they require you to update the progman?

Not that I know of........didn't see anything on the work order that would indicate a software update had been performed.

No, and I specifically told them to leave my software alone!

Not sure if it is different for the 335 but my 135 did require programming with the new pump. I think it has to do with priming the pump before you start the car because when I unlock the car, I hear a buzz.

Well, service advisor tells me of a new bulletin from BMW that requires a reprogram for long crank symptom before authorization to replace HPFP.

I asked them to update mine, and they said they can't unless it was required. And they didn't. Had my pump replaced last month

Apparently so -- mine was in on long cranks, and they did this. They also tested the pump, and it threw a code during testing. The SA told me they still had to get the OK from BMWNA to replace the pump, which they did. It's the new part number.

Picked the car up this morning, pump hasn't failed yet...

We'll all find out soon enough, I guess.

They first do the update because it will cost them much less and time....But if your changing out to the newest fuel pump there is no need to update software to make it work right....This new pump should work the same as the supposedly old pump...The newer one has better internals which supposedly are more fail proof....we shall see

you right about the pump working without an upgrade -- but the new software has improved logic for the pump operation and an enhanced code to help monitor and troubleshoot the HDP issue.. this was outlined in a service roundtable for techs.

so if you dont want you software upgraded, and you are not under warranty, then they should oblige your request, but if youre under warranty, the shop wont get reimbursed for the repair if all the conditions are not met for this repair -- there are several bulletins out on this -- the latest is 12 55 06 (march 2010 revision)

how come they would NOT upgrade my software then? i even asked them if they could and they said they cant unless they have to? my SA is a really cool guy to, very mod friendly.

Maybe you got the old pump... what's the last 3 digits of the part number on your service order?

I got my car back yesterday with the new pump and im pretty sure they reprogrammed it, the car feels a little different and my old software used to have the jerky downshift when leaving from a stop and since I got the car back it hasnt done it once. There is no note on the paperwork that says anything about an update.

does it include the tech comment on the repair order, or does it give you a generic explanation of the repair?

if it just a quick blurb -- like cust states -- car cranks for extended period on start up ..

replace HDP pump --

doesnt mean the reprogramming didnt take place.. the real story are in the tech comments

No.

The BMW tech was unsure at first whether that would be necessary, but in the end it was not (luckily).

normally the "request" to upgrade the software is turned down -- an update just to bring the car to the current I level is not valid, and may prove to cause more problems than it corrects (if at all) ..

but just as the advisor said, it will be updated if the situation requires it -- and with the HDP problem that exists its one of the first things on the list of t/shooting measures. -- note: all the 881's were called back to RPDC's and no claim for a 881 will be accepted .. so the 881's are out -- unless the dealer doesnt read there dailys

late january. it was literally like the week that people first started posting about the new part number, and saying that some dealers already had them. so i asked my SA about it and he said they didnt have that new part number in stock yet. i asked them if they could flash me to the most current software, and he said if it would require it then they would. but when i picked up the car, they said there was no need to reprog.

I got my pump replaced for the second time last week, with the new unit. This time they did reprogram the computer, and it was stated on the work order. Believe it or not, doing so immobilized my sunroof, which I discovered when I was driving away from the dealer. Returned and the service rep "recalibrated" the sunroof with the key fob.

Anyway, the car idles smoother and seems a little stronger with this 2nd replacement and reprogram.

there should be no worries about updating to ISTA/P 2.37.0 -- its actually pretty sweet in performance.. and again there are new features in the test routine for the HDP -- which helps to ferret out some on the causal issues behind this presistent failure..

but to each his own ...

sorry for the reinitialization problem on the sunroof ;(
late Feb is when the push for return of the 881 and the replacement 943 along with 2.37.0 reprogramming with enhancements for long crank ..

i just recently took my car in on 3/10/10 they tested the low side pressure and found it at 5.5 bars. According to their SOPs the minimum is 4.5 bars. The however proceeded to update the program according to SIB 12 55 06. This update changed the driving feel of the car. Possibly just in my head but the exhaust note seemed a little deeper. My iDrive color scheme was also different. (The traffic from RTM shows up in a different color and some commands are not listed differently. e.g. start route guidance became accept guidance or something of that nature) not sure if this was new either but in the home screen of the map near the zoom indicator i now have a I with a check under it. It def. seems different but i cant recall what was there before.
