Bug in the ignition system? e92 335i
I think I found a very interesting bug.....
Today I unlocked the doors, sat in the car, put the keyfob in the slot, and hit the start button. I then needed to get my jacket from the trunk, so I hit the start button, and removed the key. Got my jacket, sat back in the car, and just hit the Start button, and the car came to life.... Drove all the way home, then went to stop the car, and realized the keyfob was in my pocket. In order for the electronics to turn off, I had to put the keyfob back in the slot, and then pull it out again. I don't have CA, is this supposed to happen? Can another non-CA 335'er verify this for me? If i left the car unlocked by accident, it seems like someone could just sit down and start the car then? Tom |

Yes this is normal there are thread on it. Its supposed to be for lets say....
You want to run into starbucks becsause its cold out. you can turn off the car remove the key then hit the start button again (Within 15 seconds) the car will start with out the key then get out lock the car with it running get your drink come back and off you go. If the car gets turned off with out the key a second time (When you get to your destination it wont turn back on) So yes all of this is normal and planned

yes, this was brought up when the 330 was new. 15 seconds to turn the car back on after removing the fob. I still haven't decided if I like the function or not. I 've never used it.

I don't think 15s could get you running into starbuck and come back.

Using your bluetooth and call while waiting outside would get you in and out in 15 sec

Has nothing to do with you running into starbucks but would have been funny to see someone do this because they read the thread and thought that was the way to do it.

A sort of related question, for those of us with CA I assume its possible to get in the car, start the car, then get out with the fob and lock the doors leaving the car running? Guess I will try this out. Also what if I start the car and then leave with the fob but don't lock the door. If someone came into the car while its running but didn't have the fob with them what would happen if they tried to drive away?? Does the car not allow them to drive/kill the engine if it doesn't sense the fob within the car??

yes! thats normal for the e90s
our SoCal Frens posted that last years sometime! I believe it was long., Only does it when you unlock start and stop, and start the car. But shouldnt do it the first time you start the car after unlocking it.
