HPFP & Keyfob Memory

In October I had my second HPFP replaced in my 135i at 50,000 miles. Since the replacement I drove about 2,000 miles without an issue. Since winter, the One has been in storage until 2 weeks ago. I changed the oil, changed the spark plugs and it runs like a champ. Something very strange happen today tho... I drove the car about 150 miles today with my key that I have on my key ring. Everything was normal the car was perfectly fine. I had to take my girl to class and left my set of keys at home. I started the car with her key and got a 5 second crank. I thought to myself "Sh*t not again..." drove the car to drop her off and the car hicupps and bucks like it did both times before the fuel pumps went. Once I get to her school I restarted the car, another 5 second crank... Drove the car back home and still drove like crap. I than thought to myself, "It ran fine all day and now all of a sudden this starts to happen." I was curious at that point and remember both fuel pump failures in the past was while she was operating the car with her key fob. So I run inside, grab my key, leave her key outside of the car, start the car and the car fires up normally. I went for a quick ride and it was perfectly normal. When I get home again, swap back to her key, same issue another long crank and car drives like crap. I thought I was going insane so I had to swap keys one last time. My key fob, no issues what so ever....

If it's that predictable, take the car and both fobs to the dealer asap and demonstrate it to them! I'd LOVE to hear the explanation...!

that's bizarre. never heard of that before. the key really only stores CBS stuff, so I'm not sure what could possibly be doing that....odd

make the dealer fix it

Very strange. I had my keyfob 'forget' everything the other day-- it was like someone got in my car and messed up hvac, radio, mirrors... Parked for 5 min, got back in and everything came back. Weird!!

Hey dmurray-- funny we both would end up here after both having bogging and hesitating E36's.

Dan whats goin on...

What if its not the pumps fault... what if its the computer that controls everything that has the glitch and it breaks down the mechanical parts... I'm making an appointment tomorrow. My car is now out of warranty but the HPFP is still covered.

there was just some thread in here about BMW putting a freeze on all HPFP replacements, instead telling all the dealers to update the software. maybe you're right.....

too funny

I still have that thing, I took it out of the garage for the first time in a couple years yesterday. Thinking of "restoring" it and throwing a turbo in

Still have your turbo e30?
