it comes down to preference but some will say CAI are best because of IAT's. i'm currently using the injen dci and love it but i'm planning on trying out the UR CAI.

Agreed. It's only an intake for goodness sakes!!! All of them will net the same minimum "gains." I bet I can predict your next question...JB3 or V4..

1st Point: The Stock airbox is technically considered a CAI already (although some will debate this point) and is perfectly fine as a CAI up to about 350-400hp Also upgrade your tune...
2nd Point: Your mods should start like this: TUNE (JB3, PROcede, GIAC, etc...), CAI or DCI, Down Pipes (Catted or Catless), FMIC, Hi-flo Cats with Aftermarket Exhaust or Catless Exhaust. 3rd Point: This is like the 4th or 5th intake thread in a day... I know the forum is meant to help people, but try helping yourself. Just because you searched for 5 minutes and didn't find a satisfactory answer doesn't mean you searched enough. People have posted multitudes of threads that answer the question. But in all honesty there is no correct answer as to which DCI or CAI is the best, hands down or anything. It's all based on the forum's usage of said items and their experience. You have to ask yourself what is right for you and your wallet. I have an Injen, but that's because I didn't mind spending 350 on an intake. Others get a BMS or VISHNU DCI and spend 120, and probably get the same gains I get with my 350 intake, while others go and get the DINAN intake for 1K and get the same gains that I got with my 350 intake and others got with their 120 intake. They all do the same thing, just look different. is your friend, Try advanced Mode and pick a specific forum to narrow things down. I'm not trying to attack you, but help you...

IMO all intakes are relatively the same in terms of gains. If you want pure function get the BMS DCI as its only 129.00 but if you want something prettier under your hood then get an injen, afe, etc but these are several hundred more.
BTW You need to upgrade your JB2 to a JB3. Shoot me a PM and I can hook you up with that. Mike |

I agree with Army.
You do not need an aftermarket intake with the stock tune. The best intake for a stock ECU is the stock intake!

Best highest gains intake out there with a tune, I'd wager my money on Dinan. Just awesome work of art too. Well only downside you will pay a lot for it.

A lot of people have said that the best intake is the stock intake with a new filter. AFE and Injen post all these HP gains but ive even heard they make you lose power but are just aesthetically pleasing. Its really not the biggest thing you should be worrying about. If you want to go with one, get the DCI. Also, Watch the CAI, like my buddy told me puddles can be your worst nightmare!

+1 on AFE/BMS DCI. You won't be disappointed either way. The only thing to consider is that AFE's DCI utilizes a partial heatshield enclosure whereas Injen/BMS does not.

I'd say the Injen is the most aesthetically pleasing intake for the N54 platforms.
I just installed one in a 335i this past weekend, on a friend who upgraded from his BMS DCI. He said it sounds/performs the same, just looks a lot better, which is important to some people. |
