A New Software Fix (dealer Claim) For Hpfp: Tune Interaction/issues
Just brought my 09' 335 in for extremely long cranks, and on some mornings the engine almost stalling untill you give it some throttle.
I was expecting them to replace the HPFP, but they said BMW just came out with a software update to the ECU that should fix these issues and thus are no longer reccomending fuel pump replacement. 1. Has anyone heard of (or have any experience) with this software update so far? 2. And now the big one - does anyone have any knowledge of implications for tuning (JB+) that did not exist before the update? |

I got that update a few days ago. After my dealer visit I went to get giac flash again and it did not work. The place tried several times with different files from giac but every time it failed. And took the place few hours to get stock file back in because that was failing too. In my opionin there's some sneaky with this update.

Now I guess it's a waiting period to see how long giac takes to handle this situation. Hopefully it's a quick process. I hate driving around stock.

The software update to fix the long cranks/HPFP is total bull****. How do they expect software to fix a pump that almost always fails a leak down test when someone complains of long cranks or limp modes? If a suspect pump fails a leak down test, the problem is obviously mechanical (hardware) and not software. Also, if a problem is software based, everyone with that version of software would be affected. Not everybody that owns a 335i has had their HPFP replaced.

I had my pump replaced with the new one about a month ago. The car is at the dealer now for long cranks and I should be getting it back today. My SA told me once the new pump is installed the car needs to have the software updated. He said if the software is not updated, the car will have long cranks and have fuel pressure and fuel pump plaussability codes.
Ill update once I have the car back |

same for me over here. Had long cranks and the dealer was not allowed to replace the pump. They had to put on the new software and check the day after if the car had a long crank after standing there over night. In the end the car was in for 2.5 days for this!
However, no long cranks anymore.... |

I went into the dealer the other day and they updated my ecu to the newest BMW software. Afterwards I drove to GIAC to get my flash put back.
This was last Thursday and my car is running fine, but there may be some issues with different ECUs.

My car is also at the dealer today for 2nd Fuel Pump failure. This time SES light actually came on and stayed on for 2 days without going into limp mode and then went off.
I'm hoping they replace the pump cuz this one shut down after only 2500 miles from the last replacement. And really hoping the update doesnt reject JB3! |

The software updated *does* fix the long crank times. I still had to go back for a new HPFP (misfires, loss of power) but the long crank times did go away with just the software update. They will still replace your HPFP if you get misfire (codes) after the software update.

you have a pre- 03/08 car -- unless you have a new DME (replaced after 03/08 you'd still be on a MSD80 box. maybe? that could be the difference -- but im not sure about it ... so its just supposition at this point |
