Lease Residual

Hello,
I've searched and read maybe dozens of posts about this topic, but I still have some questions. My lease is going to end on 7/11/10, and I plan on buying the car. It's a E92 328 with Logic 7, Ipod, and sports package. The residual is quite a bit higher than blue book and NADA. I've showed both values to the dealer already.

I've read multiple topics where the residual was successfully negotiated down. I've talked to my dealer and they won't budge. I just got off the phone with BMW FS and she said the residual is never negotiated and she won't budge either. The only thing she said might help is if the dealer happens to be running a special. For those of you that were able negotiate your residual, how did you do it?

Try this....email Jeff at Jefforenstein@chapmanchoice.com email your last 7 of your vin number of the car that you are purchasing and the exact miles. You may be very surprised at what can be done.

Last year, I purchased my leased vehicle. The best advice I can give you is to visit as many BMW dealerships you can in your area. My originating dealership basically did nothing, but after talking with a number of them up here, I also shopped it down in the NYC area (I was heading down there anyway to visit family), and a dealer in NH. Any dealer can sell you back your car.

It was a bit of work and time, but I was able to secure a great deal. Don't forget to have them CPO your car. Not only can you then take advantage of any special financing deals through BMWFS (if you're financing), but you'll get the extended warranty for an additional 2 years/50K miles.

Just visit a different dealer.

So far my residual is $30k+ give or take a few hundred. And my best offer that I got so far is $26,000. Still going to shop around to see which dealer can give me the best price.

And you cannot go through BMWFS anymore. They will not haggle the price with you. Just walk into any BMW dealer, doesn't have to be the one you bought your car from.

GL!

I'm in a similar boat as the OP; my lease ends in Nov this year. How soon before your leases end should you start to ask around? I've been told if you ask too early they pretty much won't budge. Also is it a pretty quick process? I mean do you just ask them what's their best offer or do you haggle with them the same as when you're buying new?

My leases ends this summer, and I've been told that 3 months before lease end is when the dealers can start to look at lowering the price - don't know if that is a hard and fast rule across the board, but have heard that from a couple of dealers.

If he is that so far over mileage it could be very costly to get into a new lease but generally my dealer has been forgiving when we lease a new car, just depends on how much.

My dealer waived the over mileage when I leased a new car, each dealer to his own

The more the miles, the lower the buyout. It actually works in your favor if you want to think of it that way. I got quotes from 4 dealers and was very happy with the final price I chose.

I spoke with multiple dealers and the best I've gotten was $490 off the residual, which is still significantly above kbb and NADA. I guess I'll wait a month and try harassing them some more.

Thanks for all the advice.

OP

Did you haggle them or just flat out ask for a price? Also did you go into the dealership or just ask over the phone?
