Any one else using the DROID?
Just picked it up today, and I'm pretty impressed with it. I'm a former Iphone Guy but don't ruin this thread please by saying "Iphone ftw" I'm going to try it out for the 30 days. If not I'll be picking up a new Iphone again
Just wondering what you guys that have Droids feel about them? BTW: really digging the 5mp camera |

The only thing keeping me from getting a droid is this:
No one has successfully made a really good alternative to the iPhone's touch screen capabilities. I tried using the Droid and wasn't too impressed with its speed. Scrolling was not as smooth as I thought it would be and apps were not as fast as I thought they would be; however, the apps were cool!. The Zune has that speed and smoothness I'm looking for; it is a really good competitor for the iPod Touch. Hopefully they'll make a phone version of it. If it comes out on Verizon's network, I'm totally getting it. I am a really big UI kind of person when it comes to phones and mobile devices. If the UI isn't smooth and feels like it has a "low framerate" so to speak, I don't like it. I don't want to feel like I am using a computer that can suffer from slow downs; I want to feel like I am using an efficient, mobile device. |

I've got the Droid, and like you, came from the iPhone. I couldn't be happier. I love the phone and I think its the only thing that will rival the iPhone in terms of UI and ease of use. I love how it integrates seamlessly with GMail and Facebook, etc. And I actually find that the on screen keyboard is easier to use than the iPhone. The apps available are far superior for the iPhone - and there are some things on the Droid that are not as polished - but all in all I'm really happy with mine.

When I was first eligible to upgrade my phone with Verizon, I got the Droid Eris. I really like the sleekness of the phone and loved the onscreen keyboard of it. But the battery life was just AWFUL!!! It would only last me about 8 hours before it needed charged.
I then got the Moto Droid. The reason I didnt get it in the first place because I thought it was too bulky and didnt know how much I would actually use the keyboard. Now that I have it, I dont really notice the weight or size of it... I guess Im just use to it now. As for the keyboard, I guess I have small fingers so I love it! I can definitely see that how men with bigger hands wouldnt be able to use it though. The Android system is awesome. Just soo easy to go from apps to calls, to texts.... I guess its just all around practical. I debated switching to AT&T to get the iphone, but now Im glad I didnt... love my Moto Droid! |

I've heard good things about the Droid, regarding speed.
I have the TP2, w/ Windows Mobile 6.5, and I'd have to say, sometimes I am ashamed of my phone's speed and how it freezes up sometimes, especially considering how much the phone costs. Makes me want a Droid sometimes, but I feel like leaving WM would be too much of a drastic change, lol.

I have a bias since I have worked or still work for both companies who make the Iphone and Droid.
Hands down I have yet to see any company beat Apple with overall user experience. However. I have always bought Motorola phone since they work great as a phone, the voice quality and performance is hard to beat. With that said.... Droid has issues, not because it is made by Motorola, the hardware is well made and it would probably serve you well. The issue is with the software, Android has a long way to go. If Google wants knock down Apple a few notches then android should do everything the Iphone does plus then some which it does not. The touch sensitive which is highlighted above is not 100% a hardware issue it is a software issue. This is probably my number one complaint with the Android phone the sporadic sensitivity of the touch screen, sometimes it does works well and other times it hard to get it to do what you want. I notice this is related to how many things the phone is doing at any give time since Droid allows apps to run in the background. The other big frustration is the fact the phone after being on for a while becomes slow and sluggish. This remind me of the Microsoft mobile phones, and instead of blue screen the phone would just hang or lockup. Droid handle this a little better, it at least tells you an app is not working or not responding and ask you to force quit it. Also now they recommend powering down the phone at least once a day to help improve performance and at least weekly remove the battery to do a full reset. I have been doing this and it does help. I can tell you my wife has a 3GS iphone and it has never been turned off or powered down in 6 months and it works like a champ. Coming from an iphone, you will notice many of the apps on the iphone are just not available on Android yet and many will never be since develops have made it clear they do not plan to support all the various Android platforms. Also you will see complaints about how an app works on one android phone and does not work at all on another one. I like mine since it does work well as a phone, and allow me to check emails and do some basic things but from a software stand point is has a long way to go.
