E92 jacking points
Hi chaps,
I got my E92 back after a period of loan to a colleague. To say it has not come back in the best of conditions is an understatment. A wheel refurb is definitely on the cards in the coming weeks, but in terms of addressing the bonded contaminants this weekend I wanted to get the wheels off and clean them - this will allow me to clean and dress the inner arches etc. I have access to a suitable trolley jack, but have no idea of the best jacking points. Can anyone please advise?

Double check this but I am pretty sure the jacking points are as follows:
I think they are the 4 (2 on each side, 1 towards the front, 1 towards the rear) square section protrusions on the underside of the car located a little way in from the side skirts. |

I use cut pieces of 2 x 1 to insert into the points otherwise you will muller the plastic cups.

Good advice - a generic trolley jack will knacker them unless you do as Jules suggests.

Trolley jack with a padded foot and all singing/dancing neon lights for me, hence no mullered blocks

I think it was a good buy, and it is a good product, lights are a bit OTT! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Liftmaster-Alu...item3caa8fc845 Quote:
You're correct Ian, they are LED's, only the very pedantic would be quite so picky |

As people have mentioned, for just cleaning the wheels, jack it up on one of the normal 4 jacking pads under the car. You may need a fairly low jack to get it under the car or drive up on a piece of wood. If your jack is not flat like Ian's all singing and dancing led pad, then some wood or jack adaptors like this may help.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=294737 This link also has a few other places where you may place jackstands, but I would be quite careful here. The last thing you want is a horrible crunching sound of a jack stand going though the floor. I blieve that the BMW TIS instructions says you can lift on the front center pad. First pic in post # 51 on the link below. You can also lif it on the diff, but NOT at the rear differencial cover as post #51 shows. AFAIK you need to lift a bit further in on the diff casing instead. I have done this before and used my axle stands with the jack adapters. Nice and secure. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...t=47468&page=3 Last edited by fastloop; 04-15-2010 at 10:06 AM.. Reason: Typo |

If you jack it otherwise, you will crush the plastic receptacle. I speak from personal experience PS: I now see that others have made similar comments - I leapt in very quickly as soon as I read the OP's first reply! |

I think what Jon is saying is that even with a padded foot an insert is still highly recommended as lifting the car on the walls of the plastic square section of the jacking point is not a good idea.

The thought is great - have an insert with raised block that takes the BMW lifting point, and a battery operated light |
